What Is Kelly Slater’s Newborn Baby’s Name? Even He Doesn’t Know Yet. (Video)
Kelly Slater, surfing’s greatest of all time, the oldest and youngest world champion in history, is finally nearing the sunset of his professional, competitive surf career. And it’s a fitting time, too, as the 52-year-old Floridian is now a dad for the second time.
On the latest episode of 1988 world champion Barton Lynch’s podcast, The Stoked Bloke Show, Slater sat down with bearded surf sage to talk about surfing in the recent Paris 2024 Olympics, held at Teahupo’o, Tahiti, while accidentally leaking the baby news.
“We just had a baby, so…it’s awesome,” Slater said. “It’s great. Kalani and I are super stoked. We got a little boy. My friends think a little bit that we’re playing a game with them, because we haven’t said the name. We actually don’t call him anything. We gave him a name for his birth certificate, but as of now, we don’t have a name we call him. We’re kinda just letting him figure out what his personality is. That was my Olympics.”
And it looks like he and his partner, Kalani Miller, are in no rush to find a name either.
“It took us three months to name our dog,” Kelly added. “So, it might take a year [for the baby].”

As previously mentioned, Slater already has a kid – a daughter, Taylor – from a previous partner. As for Kalani, who along with her sister runs a swimsuit company, this will be the couple’s first child together. And for Slater, his first boy.
So, how about we help him with a few baby name ideas?
-Cocoa (an ode to his hometown of Cocoa Beach, FL)
-Kao (Hawaiian word for goat)
-Kid (name for baby goats)
-XI (11 – as in world titles – but roman numerals)
-Kelly Jr. (well, why not)
-Robert Jr. (also, why not)
Stay tuned. Official announcement undoubtedly coming soon.
