For the occasion, Russell opted for a subtle twist on the subdued elegance trend in a long-sleeve, floor-length dress courtesy of Dries Van Noten. The ornate ensemble featured a wrapped bodice, twisted waist and keyhole back.
The actress completed her look with pointed-toe shoes by Saint Laurent that peeked out from beneath her dress’ skirt. She kept her jewelry coordinated, choosing earrings and a ring by Hearts On Fire.
For her glam, Russell’s hair was styled into a tight chignon by Brian Magallones. Her makeup, done by artist Tina Turnbow, featured a natural look with bold eyes and brows. Her ensemble was curated by stylist Frank Fleming, who has collaborated with Russell for more than five years.
A member of the renowned Antwerp Six — a group of fashion designers who studied at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1981 under Belgian designer Linda Loppa — Dries Van Noten launched his own fashion house in 1986. His designs have graced many high-profile stars, including Cate Blanchett, Kirsten Dunst, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie.
The eponymous fashion house unveiled its spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection at Paris Fashion Week in September, only months after the namesake designer retired. “It certainly had many of the ingredients from his work over the years — textiles and embroideries with a hint of the exotic; the clashing color and print sense that has been known to inspire the world’s top interior designers; the masculine/feminine interplay and the sportswear touches, seen on piped printed Bermuda shorts that stood in for pants in several looks,” WWD’s Booth Moore said of the collection in an excerpt from her review.
Van Noten confirmed he was stepping down from his eponymous label in March. His final show was the men’s spring 2025 collection in June.
“The Diplomat” follows career diplomat Kate Wyler (Russell), who finds herself in a high-profile job for which she is not suited. Her role amid an international crisis could have devastating implications for her marriage and political future. Season 2 of the series hits Netflix Thursday.
