Is Kevin Costner Returning to 'Yellowstone'? New Trailer Has Fans Confused
Just when we thought we had the Yellowstone drama figured out, Paramount Network throws fans another curveball.
Here's what we know: The series is set to return for the last half of season 5 on November 10. Paramount Network said this would be the end of the series, although it now seems possible that it will continue for a sixth season with fan favorites Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly. Now, a new teaser is causing some confusion.
The short but intense clip shows more of what we'd expect to see in Yellowstone, from family drama to horseback riding to incredible Montana scenery. It begins with an ominous statement from star Kevin Costner, who has portrayed John Dutton on the show. He says, "Legacy—you build something worth having, someone is going to try to take it."
This sounds on-brand for the series, except for the fact that Kevin Costner himself has said he won't be appearing in the remaining episodes. Back in June, amid promotion for his film Horizon, he shared a video statement, saying, "I just wanted to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that's required and thinking about Yellowstone, the beloved series that I love and that I know you love...I just realized that I'm not be able to continue season 5 b or into the future."
Fans pointed out the discrepancy in the comments section, saying, "Why is Kevin being shown here? Is he in the last series or not?" "No Kevin so why advertise with him???" and "I came here to say this!!!! Stop putting him in these 'previews' if he isn’t going to be in it!!!!" Another fan wrote, "I don't want to watch it without Kevin.. and I've watched Yellowstone 10 times.. I love that series so much. Without him.. no interest me."
Paramount Network released the first images from the season, and John Dutton is not in any of them. With no further details from Paramount Network, it remains to be seen how the series will deal with Kevin Costner's absence in the remaining episodes.
