Kim Cattrall Says She Is Not Returning to ‘And Just Like That’

Samantha Jones is staying in London according to actress Kim Cattrall.

The “Sex and the City” alum tweeted that she will not reprise her role for Season 3 of revival series “And Just Like That.” Cattrall briefly appeared in the Season 2 finale in a scene filmed separate from the core cast.

Life & Style reported that Cattrall was set to be back for Season 3, with a source telling the outlet that Cattrall would again film away from the rest of the cast. The publication said HBO was “bending over backwards to pay her an absolute fortune, and it’s all on her terms because she’s so central to the franchise.”

Not true, according to the actress herself.

“Aw that’s so kind but I’m not,” Cattrall commented when an Elle UK article claiming her return was reposted on X.

Cattrall played publicist Samantha Jones for the original “Sex and the City” six-season run from 1998 to 2004 on HBO. She also was back for the 2008 and 2010 spinoff films.

Of course, Cattrall’s former co-star John Corbett famously said he would be back for Season 1, but still without Aidan in the series, he later said he was kidding. Corbett was a main character once more for Season 2, though.

“And Just Like That” Season 3 will be the first season sans Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez). Core cast member Cynthia Nixon told Variety that her “And Just Like That” onscreen love interest Che was a “controversial character” for the Max series. Ramirez parted ways with the show in February 2024 ahead of production on Season 3.

“They created such an amazing character — such a controversial character, but such an amazing character,” Nixon said of Ramirez. “I think they felt, and Michael Patrick [King] felt, that that character had run its course. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed.”

Season 3 will welcome new cast members Mehcad Brooks (“Law & Order”), Jonathan Cake (“The Affair,” “Desperate Housewives”), Logan Marshall-Green (“Upgrade”), and Rosie O’Donnell in recurring in roles.

Back are Corbett, Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, Sebastiano Pigazzi, Dolly Wells, and Alexa Swinton.

Michael Patrick King is the showrunner and executive producer for the revival series. Actresses Parker, Davis, and Nixon all executive produce. The original “Sex and the City” series was created by Darren Star and based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell.
