Kim Kardashian's whirlwind day in D.C. isn't without 'kontroversy'
Kim Kardashian is passionate in her quest to get Alice Marie Johnson pardoned.
Despite an icky history with Donald Trump, the reality TV star and beauty mogul suited up in her business best and crossed the country on Wednesday to meet the president in the White House. There, they discussed the 63-year-old great-grandmother, who has been behind bars for more than two decades for a first-time drug offense.
Trump shared a photo of them in the Oval Office, saying the meeting about prison reform and sentencing went “great.”

Kardashian, who was accompanied by attorney Shawn Holley, had this to say:
I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.

We are optimistic about Ms. Johnson’s future and hopeful that she —and so many like her—will get a second chance at life.

We say “icky” because Trump for years has publicly made crude comments about Kardashian related to her body, calling it “bad,” saying she has a “fat ass,” and criticizing how she dressed during one of her pregnancies. And they’ve known each other since 2010, when Kardashian appeared on Celebrity Apprentice. Despite the president’s remarks, Kardashian — who publicly supported Hillary Clinton during the election — put her best foot forward in an attempt to help Johnson, whom Kardashian has been working for months to free with the help of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.
The Donald lover Kanye West was probably thrilled to see his bride bond with the president — and the first family. Kardashian saw Kushner at the White House, but she later visited his home for more face time with him and Ivanka. The Daily Mail has photos of Kardashian and Holley inside with the power pair as well as arriving and leaving.

While Holley and an attorney for Johnson reportedly liked the way the meeting with Trump went, Kardashian’s do-gooding didn’t buy her any points with the New York Post. The tabloid’s attempt to riff on the “Trump-Kim” summit failed by focusing on Kardashian’s body rather than the work she was doing. The cover read, “The Other Big Ass Summit: Trump Meets Rump,” with a subhead calling her “Kim Thong Un,” and there were multiple references to her ass in the story.

Kardashian’s visit to the White House did lead to a lot of jokes — like Ed Asner saying, “I am having an acid flashback” — but people rushed to her defense over the sexism. Two comments came from Holley and one of Johnson’s attorneys, Brittany K. Barnett.
I am honored to accompany @KimKardashian to The White House today to advocate on behalf of Alice Marie Johnson. Kim has spent her time, money & energy for this incredibly worthy cause. Please give credit where credit is due.

Ms. Alice is serving the same amount of time as the Unabomber – LIFE w/o parole. People need to feel that. What sense does that make???? Thank you @KimKardashian for using your platform to save Ms. Alice’s life!! Free Alice Johnson!!! https://t.co/Mqc4Kf6k2L

CNN’s Don Lemon called the New York Post cover “appalling.”
Alyssa Milano was firmly on Team Kim.
Disgusting headline, @nypost. @KimKardashian was meeting with President Trump about a critical issue and you lead with her ass?
This is unacceptable sexism. No woman deserves this.
Thank you for using your platform to raise awareness for the issue of prison reform, Kim. https://t.co/P43Vq2mPLR

Other folks called out the newspaper as well.
This cover is sexist and pathetic. Do better @nypost. https://t.co/RxJcm8K34s

I’m not the biggest Kim K fan, but this is in poor taste and sexist.

Y’all really gonna make me go to bat for Kim K, eh?
“The Other Big Ass Summit”
Just in case readers interpret this double entendre to be referring to their common personality traits, you reference Kim’s butt 3 more times.
This is too trite, even for you all. https://t.co/lRRhqweZgs

The New York Post’s headline is disgusting. Not only sexist, but @KimKardashian is doing something good and they choose to demean her…

Of course, others loved it.

Kim Kardashian has built her "career" on her ass implants. So I think that New York Post cover was earned. #Sorrynotsorry

Kim Kardashian’s loves any attention to her Rump! For goodness sake she post nudies if it and her body every other day! Don’t worry, she’s fine!

None of this will really matter if Kardashian gets her wish and Johnson gets out of prison. So far, Trump hasn’t made his decision. However, on Thursday he did pardon conservative author Dinesh D’Souza. He’s also mulling over whether to pardon Martha Stewart and commute the sentence of imprisoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
