The sweetness of young love is on the horizon for Heartstopper Season Three. On Tuesday, Netflix released the trailer for the wholesome rom-com series starring Joe Locke and Kit Connor — and we’re getting a closer look at how their characters’ love develops in the new season, which drops Oct. 3.

The trailer opens with Charlie and Nick at the beach, listening to “Vertigo” by Griff, and showcases sweet scenes between the two main characters navigating the complexities of their feelings, as they kiss under some fireworks, meet up with friends at a party, and one scene where Nick (Connor) confronts Charlie (Locke) about being “worried” about his mental health.

“I’ve noticed you’ve been very stressed,” he tells him. Later in the episode, multiple characters share their worry for Charlie as he questions “what to do” now. Charlie is seen in a later spot in the trailer getting help for his anxiety.

Nick is also filmed telling his mom (Olivia Colman) that he really loves Charlie as she gives him sweet advice: “Sometimes people need more support than one person can give. You can be there for him, standing together even when it’s hard. That’s love, darling!”

The love story between Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William) continues as they learn to navigate their friendship-turned-relationship. “When you put your hand there, all my dysphoria just hit me,” says Elle, who’s trans, after a scene in the trailer of the two kissing in bed.

The new season will capture the Heartstopper cast during summer break, and as they get closer to the first day of their last year of school. “As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties, and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan,” reads a synopsis of the season.

Season Three is set to feature eight new episodes, and arrives just over a year after Heartstopper released its second season. The show won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids and Family Programming — Live Action.
