Get to Know the Hilarious Cast of the ‘The Office’ More Than 10 Years After the Show Ended

World's Best Boss? More like World's Best Mockumentary! Seriously, the workers at the Dunder Mifflin paper company were truly hilarious, which is why we decided to find out what The Office cast has been up to since the show ended more than a decade ago, and you may be surprised at some of the names that really got their start on this innovative series.

The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013 and was adapted from the British show of the same name, follows the fictional workers of Dunder Mifflin as they deal with office culture, love and friendship. Earning five Emmys during it's 201 episode run, The Office remains one of the most watched comedies of all time.

Steve Carell

CHARACTER PLAYED: Michael Scott

BORN: August 16, 1962, in Concord, Massachusetts.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Despicable Me (2010), Crazy, Stupid Love (2011), Battle of the Sexes (2017), The Morning Show (2019 t0 2021), Space Force (2020 to 2022) and If (2024).

PERSONAL: Carell has been married to Nancy Carell since 1995. They have two children together.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: When asked how he felt about leaving the show, Carell said, "It was time for other characters to step to the forefront and other storylines to be pursued. The timing was right for everybody. But simultaneously, there was just a sense of joy that we had experienced all of this. I was getting a chance to take a lap with everybody. I was simultaneously saying goodbye as Michael and us as friends in this moment of work together."

FUN FACT: Carell left the show after seven seasons.

Rainn Wilson: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Dwight Schrute

BORN: January 20, 1966 in Seattle, Washington.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Six Feet Under (2003 to 2005), Juno (2007), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Cooties (2014), The Meg (2018) and Empire Waist (2024). 

PERSONAL: Wilson has been married to Holiday Reinhorn since 1995. They have one child together.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: “When I was in The Office, I spent several years really mostly unhappy because it wasn’t enough. I’m realizing now, like, 'I’m on a hit show, Emmy nominated every year, making lots of money, working with Steve Carell and Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski and these amazing writers and incredible directors like Paul Feig. I’m on one of the great TV shows. People love it.' I wasn’t enjoying it. I was thinking about, ‘Why am I not a movie star? Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t have a movie career? Why don’t I have this development deal?'”

FUN FACT: Wilson became a producer on the show during its later seasons.

John Krasinski

CHARACTER PLAYED: Jim Halpert

BORN: October 20, 1979, in Newton, Massachusetts.

BEST KNOWN FOR: The Holiday (2006), The Muppets (2011), Aloha (2015),  A Quiet Place I and II (2018/2020), Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018 t0 2023) and If (2024).

PERSONAL: Krasinski has been married to Emily Blunt since 2010. They have two children together.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: Krasinski recently revealed, "The hardest I've ever laughed in my life is the Christmas episode where Steve pretends to be Santa and asks Brian Baumgartner, who plays Kevin, to sit on his lap. As soon as Steve said, 'What would you like for Christmas, little boy,' he lost all the air in his body when Brian sat on him. I've never laughed harder in my life. And if you're a fan of the show, you know they used to just swing pan to Jim for a reaction and I looked over to the cameraman and said, 'Don't even try it. I will not be here,' and so every time he swings it's to an empty room, I just wasn't there."

FUN FACT: Krasinski was about to quit acting before he got cast as Jim.

Jenna Fischer: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Pam Beesly

BORN: March 7, 1974 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Slither (2006), Walk Harder: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), The Giant Mechanical Man (2012), You, Me and the Apocalypse (2015), Splitting Up Together (2018 t0 2019) and Mean Girls (2024).

PERSONAL: Fisher was married to James Gunn from 2000 to 2008. Then she married Lee Kirk in 2010 and has been with him ever since. They have two children together.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: Pam (Fisher) and Jim's (Krasinski)  chemistry on screen was unforgettable. So much so that Fischer has had to go on record to say, "People don't know how John and I are not a couple in real life, they don't understand it. I don't know how to explain it, because it's a little bit like telling kids there's no Santa."

FUN FACT: Fischer and Angela Kinsey (Angela) are best friends in real life, despite the fact that their characters didn't get along.

B. J. Novak

CHARACTER PLAYED: Ryan Howard

BORN: July 31, 1979 in Newton, Massachusetts.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Inglorious Bastards (2009), The Smurfs 2 (2013), Saving Mr. Banks (2013), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and Vengeance (2022).

PERSONAL: Novak has a degree in English and Spanish literature from Harvard University.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: "The Sopranos was actually the biggest influence on The Office because of the way that comedy and drama and character were all completely indistinguishable. In fact, the way Michael Scott will say something very serious, but mispronounce a word, I feel is a direct descendant of the Tony Soprano sense of humor. So I thought he would've been an incredible replacement. I really, really wanted to work with him."

FUN FACT: Novak wrote a lot of the show's episodes.

Mindy Kaling: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Kelly Kapoor

BORN: June 24, 1979 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009), Inside Out (2015), The Mindy Project (2012 t0 2017), Ocean's 8 (2018), Velma (2023 to 2024) and Monsters at Work (2021 to 2024). 

PERSONAL: Kaling has three children.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: “The writers who I’m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t make now. Tastes have changed and, honestly, what offends people has changed so much now. I think that actually is one of the reasons the show is popular, because people feel like there’s something kind of fearless about it or taboo that it talks about on the show"

FUN FACT: Kaling and Novak are good friends in real life.

Ed Helms

CHARACTER PLAYED: Andy Bernard

BORN: January 24, 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia.

BEST KNOWN FOR: The Hangover I, II & III (2009, 2011 and 2013), The Lorax (2012), Vacation (2015), Tag (2018) and Family Switch (2023).

PERSONAL: Helms is an avid bluegrass guitar player.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: In season 3 of The Office, there is a scene where Andy (Helms) punches a hole in the wall. Helms remembers, "It was my first time doing anything that qualified as a stunt […] There was a whole little meeting about how they were going to score the back of the sheetrock so that my hand went through easier. And then … they fixed a pad onto the inner wall so that when my hand went through, I wouldn’t hit wood or aluminum or anything. Also, they had multiple planks that they could stick up just so we could do multiple takes.

"I think we did two takes or so and I skinned up my knuckles. There was a pad in there, but I think breaking through the sheetrock skinned up my knuckles. So, yeah, that was pretty intense."

FUN FACT: Helms had to leave the show for a little bit in season nine to film The Hangover Part III (2013).

Phyllis Smith: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Phyllis Vance

BORN: July 10, 1951 in Lemay, Missouri.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Bad Teacher (2011), Inside Out 1 & 2 (2015/2024) and The OA (2016 to 2019).

PERSONAL: Smith was a St. Louis Cardinals Cheerleader.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: Smith's favorite episode of the show? The one where Phyllis gets married! "The one scene I had a really hard time not laughing through was  when [Carell] came into the bride's room to give me advice, and we could not get through the word 'pungent.' Every time he would say 'pungent,' he would break out in his cackle. He couldn't get through it and I couldn't get through it. And then we hear the sound people sitting outside the door laughing, so they had to move them down the stairway, down into the bottom because every time we said 'pungent,' we lost it. So if I looked a little blue in that scene, that's the reason."

FUN FACT: Smith was working as the show's casting director before she was cast.

Angela Kinsey

CHARACTER PLAYED: Angela Martin

BORN: June 25, 1971 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Tripping Forward (2009), Struck by Lighting (2012), Haters Back Off! (2016 t0 2017) and Tall Girl 1 & 2 (2019/2022).

PERSONAL: Kinsey was married to Warren Lieberstein from 2000 until 2009, and they had one child together. Then she married Joshua Snyder in 2016 and has been with him ever since.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: Kinsey's character, Angela, was very standoffish, with the actress saying, "There were one or two times in which there would be a joke written for her that I thought was just really stereotypical, maybe one note ... I like to think of her as a full, well-rounded person."

FUN FACT: Kinsey and Fischer have a podcast entitled The Office Ladies where they rewatch and discuss episodes of the show.

Kate Flannery: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Meredith Palmer

BORN: June 10, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

BEST KNOWN FOR: You (2009), Cooties (2014), OK K.O! Let's be Heroes (2017 to 2019), The Prank (2022) and Plan B (2024).

PERSONAL: Flannery was married to Chris Haston until 2016.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: "They hired somebody else to play Meredith, but that didn’t work out. So they needed to replace her, and I auditioned for the role of this lactose-intolerant, recently divorced woman who had just had a hysterectomy. Meredith wasn’t originally going to be an alcoholic, but the role changed a bit, and she becomes this drunken floozy. I’m not sure how they wrote that in. I probably talked with the writers about my days in my dad’s bar and my time bartending. Who knows? I love Meredith. She’s so loud and proud, completely unashamed and unapologetic. She knows who she is."

FUN FACT: Flannery can often be seen playing Klondike on her computer in the background.

Brian Baumgartner

CHARACTER PLAYED: Kevin Malone

BORN: November 29, 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia.

BEST KNOWN FOR: License to Wed (2007), Four Christmases (2008), Diagnosis Delicious (2016), Electric Jesus (2020) and The Other Black Girl (2023).

PERSONAL: Baumgartner has been married to Celeste Ackelson since 2014.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: "The Office being 10 years, nine seasons, I mean, I was essentially on the show the entirety of my thirties. It was a decade. To give people perspective, that's like progressing from high school through college and then a couple of more years. It's such a long period of your life and you establish such deep relationships and, obviously, such close identification with those characters. At the time we were doing 30 episodes a year, which now is like never, ever done. So we were working a lot of weeks."

FUN FACT: Baumgartner also has a podcast, The Office Deep Dive.

Leslie David Baker: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Stanley Hudson

BORN: February 19, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois

BEST KNOWN FOR: Road to Redemption (2001), Wish I was Here (2014), When Duty Calls (2015), Still the King (2016), The Happytime Murders (2018), Doug Unplugs (2020 to 2022) and Hard Miles (2023).

PERSONAL: Baker has a degree in Psychology from Loyola University.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: When asked if he would have liked to play another character in the show, Baker says, "Nope. He [Stanley] was the most fun character of my career. Before it was lucrative, it was fun.”

FUN FACT: Baker tried to get a spinoff series entitled Uncle Stan off the ground. He even raised the money for it, but it never happened because of COVID-19.

Oscar Nu?ez

CHARACTER PLAYED: Oscar Martinez

BORN: November 18, 1958 in Cuba.

BEST KNOWN FOR: The Proposal (2009), Without Men (2011), Benched (2014), People of Earth (2016 to 2017) and Firebuds (2022 t0 2024)

PERSONAL: Nu?ez has been married to Ursula Whittaker since 2011. They have one child together.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: "Maybe the middle of the second season, I knew it was a great show when B.J. Novak wrote Diversity Day for our second episode. I thought, 'Oh, this is really good. We could really have a good show.' That’s when I knew it was good."

FUN FACT: Nu?ez reportedly broke character the least while filming.

Creed Bratton: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Creed Bratton

BORN: February 8, 1943 in  Los Angeles, California.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Mask (1985), Neon City (1991), Terri (2011), Saving Lincoln (2013) and Hero Mode (2021).

PERSONAL: Bratton was married to Josephine Ann Fitzpatrick from 1967 until 1974, and they had one child together. Then he married Claudia Watkins Anderson in 1976 and remained with her until 1983. They also had one child together.

FUN FACT: Bratton is the only character that has the same name as the actor playing him.

Craig Robinson

CHARACTER PLAYED: Darryl Philbin

BORN: October 25, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Hot Tub Time Machine (2010), Shrek Forever After (2010), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013), Austin Found (2017), The Bad Guys (2022) and My Spy: The Eternal City (2024).

PERSONAL: Robinson has a Bachelor's degree in Music from Illinois State University, as well as a Master's degree in Music Education from Saint Xavier University.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: "It hasn’t been mentioned to me. If it does, I would love to reprise Darryl at some point — but right now, I don’t know.”

FUN FACT: Robinson was arrested twice for drug possession.  Once in 2008 for ecstasy and methamphetamine, but those charges were dropped. Then again in 2020 for marijuana and ecstasy pills.

Ellie Kemper: The Office cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Erin Hannon

BORN: May 2, 1980 inKansas City, Missouri.

THOUGHTS ON THE OFFICE: According to Kemper, "Work Bus" is her favorite episode. "We actually called it 'Death Bus,' because a lot of things went wrong on that bus and our lives were in danger. There was one really funny moment where you had to be there. I'm saying this, but it will not make sense to anyone. It didn't make sense to me at the time. But I was laughing so hard during this song called 'Shabooya' where I just wet my pants."

FUN FACT: Kemper didn't join the cast until the end of season five.
