Korea Box Office: ‘Tazza 2′ Wins Quiet Post-Holiday Weekend

HONG KONG – With numbers down across the board in the week following the Chuseok holidays, local gangster picture “Tazza 2” again took top spot at the Korean box office.

It added 540,000 admissions for a ticket sales cumulative of 3.11 million. That was worth $4.42 million (KRW4.47 billion) for a 12 day score of $25.3 million (KRW25.6 billion).

“Begin Again” showed great legs in its fifth week on release. Its weekly score jumped 76% propelling it from fifth place to second, overtaking “Into The Storm,” “Lucy” and “Pirates.” It added $2.83 million (KRW2.86 billion) for a running total of $14.9 million.

“Into The Storm” also held well, taking third spot in the declining market. It added $1.75 million (KRW1.77 billion) to end with a cumulative almost the same as “Begin Again,” at $14.6 million (KRW14.7 billion).

“Lucy,” dropping two places to fourth, and Korean drama “My Brilliant Life,” down three places to sixth, were the week’s biggest losers. “Lucy” was off 64% to finish the week with a cumulative of $14.9 million (KRW15.1 billion), while “Life” was down 57% with an additional $1.46 million (KRW1.47 billion), taking it to a cumulative score of $11.1 million (KRW11.3 billion).

The late summer’s two biggest behemoths “Roaring Currents” and “Pirates” continued to hold chart positions, albeit diminished ones. In fifth place, Lotte Entertainment’s “Pirates” added $1.60 million (KRW1.61 billion) for a running total of $63.6 million (KRW64.2 billion). In eighth spot, all time record breaker “Roaring Currents” added $552,000 (KRW558 million), extending its cumulative score to $134 million (KRW135 billion) from a run which started on July 30.
