Kristen Bell channels her ‘Frozen’ character, honors L.A. firefighters in her SAG Awards monologue
Kristen Bell returned as host of the Screen Actors Guild Awards for the first time since 2018 and opened by acknowledging the horrific wildfires that engulfed Los Angeles last month.
"This city and the people in it have been put through the wringer," she told the crowd of A-listers. "Our most attractive tables are right over there," she added while pointing to a group of LAFD firefighters seated among the celebrities. The fires broke out on Jan. 7, prompted the guild to cancel the live in-person nomination announcement scheduled for the following day, and replace it with a press release.

"I'm Kristen Bell, and I'm sorry Jean," she said in reference to Jean Smart's opening pretaped sketch in which all of the Hacks characters reacted to learning that Deborah Vance would not be hosting the SAG Awards. (With some time on her hands now, Smart's stand-up comedian character decided to take the titular Substance from that nominated film and see everyone "in seven days.")
Bell's stand-out moment was belting out "Do You Want to Be an Actor," set to the tune "Do You Want to Build a Snowman," her iconic song from Frozen. Dozens of clips from the nominees' very first projects were shown on the big screen, including folks like Harrison Ford, Kathy Bates, Demi Moore, Jodie Foster, Kieran Culkin, and yes, Bell herself. The Best Comedy Actress nominee for Nobody Wants This stayed away from politics completely, and she didn't take any specific digs at any of the people in the room. Instead, Bell's monologue was full of joy, hope, and the utter love of being an actor.

The 44-year-old actress is garnering Primetime Emmys buzz for playing opposite Adam Brody in the Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This, which marked her first-ever SAG bid. She was previously recognized at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Television Critics Association for The Good Place, at TCA for Veronica Mars, and at the Daytime Emmys for Momsplaining With Kristen Bell. In addition, she was honored with the prestigious #SeeHer Award at the 2020 Critics Choice Awards.
Bell has been married to fellow actor Dax Shepard since 2013. They've appeared in multiple TV commercials together and in the 2017 music video for Sia's "Santa's Coming for Us."
Heading into the 2025 SAG Awards, Wicked and A Complete Unknown led the film roster with five and four nominations, respectively, while Shōgun (five noms) and The Bear, The Diplomat, and The Penguin (three nominations each) topped television. In addition, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on deck to present her fellow climate change advocate Jane Fonda with the Life Achievement Award.
The kudos streamed live Sunday night on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and honored the best acting performances of the year in film and television, as voted on by the 160,000 members of SAG-AFTRA. See the winners list.
