Lady Gaga Knows She Looks Like Trixie Mattel in Her New Video

Trixie Mattel might be in the midst of a drag hiatus, but that hasn’t stopped her from unintentionally impacting pop culture at large.

This week, the drag icon got a shout-out from Lady Gaga herself, whose recent appearance alongside Bruno Mars in her “Die With a Smile” music video instantly reminded fans of Mattel’s signature look.

In the video, Gaga and Mars channel ’70s Nashville, donning coordinating powder-blue suits reminiscent of an old-school televised live music performance. With her sky-high auburn curls and huge red pussy bow blouse, Mother Monster is certainly serving old-school Dolly Parton. Yet, as many viewers noted, she also bears an uncanny resemblance to Mattel, who’s no stranger to embracing big hair and retro Americana herself.

“Gaga’s been playing in Trixie’s wig closet,” one X user joked.

“Not Gaga stealing Trixie Mattel’s look while she’s on hiatus,” another person tweeted.

The drag legend also talked to us about her Max home renovation show, DJing, and *The Sims*.

Rest assured, Gaga is very much aware that she’s giving Mattel cosplay. One fan referenced content creator Jools Lebron’s viral “very demure, very mindful” meme while commenting on a “Die With A Smile” TikTok clip that the singer recently shared.

“Trixie cosplay so demure mama,” they wrote, to which Gaga replied, “Mindful ??.”

Mattel has told interviewers that she plans to scale back her creative output upon her return to the spotlight, but I personally would like to believe that it’s the first step toward an eventual Gaga collab. If this came to pass, it wouldn’t even be the first time that the two worked together. During the January 2 episode of Mattel’s podcast The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya, the star revealed that she had recently performed opening and closing DJ sets at a private Gaga event in San Francisco.

“Listen, I’ve loved Gaga from the first album. I’d never seen her live,” Mattel said. “The costume and the makeup and the hair and everything? Perfect. Best singing I’ve ever heard in real life… This is maybe the best concert I’ve ever seen.”

Once Gaga is done clowning with Joaquin Phoenix and searching the capitol for leftover evidence from January 6th, could she mosey on down to the Trixie Motel for some more good old-fashioned camp shenanigans? I would like to see it.
