Lamorne Morris reveals fate of a ‘New Girl’ reunion — and which co-star is holding out
A certain Los Angeles loft may see the return of our favorite friend group.
Lamorne Morris revealed during the 76th Emmy Awards red carpet that he is up for reprising the role of the hilarious Winston Bishop on “New Girl” once more.
“Everybody is on the same page that we want to, except for Jake Johnson,” he joked to Heather McMahan on “Live From E!: Emmys” on the red carpet. “Jake Johnson, man, you’ve been a problem.”
And Morris wasn’t letting Johnson off the hook after McMahan, 37, encouraged him to air his beef into the camera.
The 46-year-old then made it clear he hopes to see Johnson, 46, reprise his role as Nick Miller on the beloved comedy series, which ran for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018.
“We all love the fans so much that we want to give them what they want. What’s wrong, Jake? You don’t love the fans?” he joked. “Jake Johnson hates the fans!”
But this isn’t the first time fans have heard rumbles about the comedy.
“I think if Liz [Meriwether] wanted to do it, who created the show, obviously, she thought there was some way back in,” Max Greenfield told E! News in 2022. “It would definitely be something I would be open to, but it’s tough.”
But the 45-year-old also confessed that he was hesitant about the idea of “New Girl,” which also starred Zooey Deschanel, coming back to life.
“I thought Lisa Kudrow said something really insightful when they were doing the ‘Friends’ reunion,” Greenfield shared, “which was the writers worked really hard on wrapping it all up in a way that was hopefully satisfying to the audience and satisfying to these characters.”
He continued, “If you go back into it, it means you got to undo that, and that to me is argument enough to really question whether to go back or not. The other part of it is, ‘It wasn’t that long ago.'”
Although a “New Girl” reboot may be on the horizon, tonight, Morris is focused on his nomination.
The actor is up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in “Fargo” at the Emmys 2024.
Morris plays North Dakota State Trooper Witt Farr in the FX drama and took a moment to recall how he found out he had earned an Emmy nomination.
“It was early in the morning and me and my daughter were eating,” he recounted to E!, “and obviously 20-something years in this business, to get a call like that, to get the recognition, you’re sometimes overwhelmed with tears of joy.”
But Morris’ 4-year-old daughter, Lily, was less than impressed by her dad’s latest accolade.
“She didn’t give a damn,” he shared. “She did, ‘Why are you crying daddy? Daddy is crying!’ How are you laughing at a person who is crying, honey?”
Morris added, “She hasn’t learned yet. So disrespectful. These kids, man!”
