Lamorne Morris, who seemed as surprised as everyone else to be onstage getting an Emmy on Sunday, didn’t hesitate to gush about his fellow nominees during his hyper-adrenalized acceptance speech.
One of then got a shoutout by name. “Robert Downey Jr., I’ve got a poster of you in my house!” the Fargo actor raved after winning for Supporting Actor in a “Please sign it, seriously.” As he spoke, the camera caught Downey in the audience pumping his fist and smiling.

Morris, who was honored for playing North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr, outdid the category’s two favorites, according to prognosticators: Downey (The Sympathizer) and Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers).
Had Downey won, he would have become the first actor to ever win an Oscar, Daytime Emmy and a Primetime Emmy in the same year. Instead, befitting a night full of surprises, Morris notched his first win in his first career Emmy nomination,
Morris, who is also appearing this fall as Garrett Morris in the film Saturday Night, began his speech by thanking his mother, who was shown on ABC’s cameras reacting to the moment.
After starting with thanks to God, Morris added his thanks to God “for my beautiful mother, who raised me.”
He also wryly acknowledged “my beautiful daughter, Lily. I love you. I told you I would do it — you’ve always doubted me.” Laughing, he added, “I’m your hero, I’m your leader.”
He then shouted out FX, “my beautiful cast” and his reps before reading the words that no winner wants to see flashing on the TelePromTer. “‘Wrap it up’ — shut up!” he said.
