'Las Vegas' Cast Then and Now — And After 20 Years Fans Are Still Calling For a Reboot

Airing for five seasons on network TV is no small accomplishment, but it’s the way NBC comedy-drama Las Vegas ended, and the Las Vegas cast, that has its loyal viewers still talking about it all these years later.

The series, which ran on the network from 2003-08, was canceled because ratings were slipping. But, because production of the last season was shortened in hopes of wrapping up before a looming writers strike, three planned episodes weren’t filmed.

That meant cliffhangers that, well, left viewers hanging … what happened to Delinda’s baby? Some viewers were so upset by being cheated of a proper ending that they sent baby dolls and booties to the network to demand a wind-up. So far, they’re still waiting …

And now that you can stream the show on Peacock+, many fans are once again calling for a reboot, and holding out hope.

In the meantime, here's what we do know about the sometimes wacky series’, Las Vegas cast, then and now:

Josh Duhamel as Danny McCoy

Josh Duhamel's breakout role on the defunct ABC soap opera All My Children, where he played con man-turned-half of supercouple Leo and Greenlee, led to a Daytime Emmy win and the starring role as Danny on Las Vegas.

Danny is a Marine veteran who grew up in Sin City, and has returned to work as the head of security for the Montecito, where he’s later promoted to president of operations at the resort.

During the series, Duhamel begins dating Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie when the band made a cameo appearance on the show, and the couple married in 2009. They had son Axl Jack (named after rocker Axl Rose in 2013, but finalized a divorce in 2019.

Just as Las Vegas began to wind down, Duhamel’s big-screen career took off when Steven Spielberg personally chose him to play Col. William Lennox in the 2011 blockbuster Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and its sequels, Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) and Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).

He also had a lead role in Battle Creek, a short-lived 2015 CBS crime dramedy co-created by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. In 2019, Duhamel co-produced, co-wrote, and directed movie comedy Buddy Games, about a group of friends who reunite after years apart to play out a series of games and try to cheer up one of the pals who’s depressed.

The actor produced and hosted a reality TV competition adaptation of Buddy Games for CBS in 2023. Duhamel starred in the second season of the Disney+ series adaptation of The Mighty Ducks, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Prime Video romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding. Next, he’ll co-star in the survivor thriller movie Not Without Hope.

In 2022, North Dakota native Duhamel married former Miss World America (and fellow North Dakota native) Audra Mari. They welcomed their first child together, son Shepherd, in January 2024.

James Caan as Ed Deline: Las Vegas cast

Long before his time on the Vegas Strip on TV, James Caan had his breakout role on television as co-star of the classic 1971 ABC TV movie Brian’s Song, the true story about the friendship between terminal cancer-stricken Chicago Bears player Brian Piccolo and his teammate Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams).

Big-screen stardom soon followed, when Caan was cast in 1972’s iconic film The Godfather, which co-starred his Hofstra University classmate Robert Duvall. Director Francis Ford Coppola cast Caan as hotheaded mob leader Sonny Corleone. He received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the iconic performance.

He earned another Globe nod for starring opposite Barbra Streisand in 1975’s musical dramedy Funny Lady. After taking much of the 1980s off because he was tired of Hollywood, Caan had critical and box office comebacks in Rob Reiner’s 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery, starring opposite Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker in the romantic comedy Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), and in Wes Anderson’s directorial debut Bottle Rocket in 1996.

One of Caan’s most beloved films came just before he signed on for Las Vegas, when he played the reluctant father of Will Ferrell’s titular Elf in that modern Christmas classic from 2003.

Just a couple of months before Elf premiered in theaters, Caan began portraying Deline, the Las Vegas role he had to audition for. The series began with Deline as gruff, but caring head of surveillance and security for the Montecito.

Barely a third of the way through the first season, Deline was promoted to the resort’s president of operations. Before the show’s fifth and final season, Caan announced he would leave TV work behind to refocus on big-screen roles. Caan did make guest appearances on Family Guy, and Hawaii Five-0, which starred his son, Scott Caan.

The senior Caan died after suffering a heart attack at age 82 in 2022, with a host of former co-stars paying tribute to him, including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Streisand, Duvall, Talia Shire, Will Ferrell, and directors Coppola and Reiner.

Nikki Cox as Mary Connell

Former child star Nikki Cox guest starred on Baywatch, Blossom, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, and even had a stint on daytime soap General Hospital, before landing a starring role on The WB series Unhappily Ever After; she met her future fiancée, Bobcat Goldthwait, as a co-star on the Married … with Children-ish comedy.

Cox’s biggest TV success came via her role on Las Vegas, where she played Mary, the special events director at the Montecito. Mary, like Danny, grew up in Las Vegas. In fact, they were childhood friends, with Danny being her safe haven when she was sexually abused by her father. In season two, Danny and Mary were briefly engaged, but she called the relationship off.

She became the resort’s manager in season three, but when the series was forced to make budget cuts before season five, Mary was written out of the show, as she went on the lam after killing her father. Cox met, and later married, comedian Jay Mohr when he guested on Las Vegas, and when he was nominated for a Best Comedy Album Grammy Award in 2015, he credited Cox with writing “great material” for the project.

James Lesure as Mike Cannon: Las Vegas cast

From guest appearances in Seinfeld, Martin, NYPD Blue, and Mad About You to recurring roles in Alias and Half & Half, and a starring role on the NBC/The WB comedy For Your Love, James Lesure was a frequent primetime presence when he created the role of Mike, the Montecito’s head valet-turned-security specialist-turned head of security and surveillance.

Mike was married in the series pilot, a storyline that was seemingly forgotten right after. But in season five, Mike married Piper (Camille Guaty), the new concierge who was revealed to have a secret (even to her) relationship with Montecito owner A.J. Cooper.

Mike’s storyline ended on a happy note at the end of Las Vegas, and Lesure’s career has happily progressed after the series’ end, too. He guest starred on Happy Endings, CSI, and Schooled, and had recurring roles on Good Girls, Blue Bloods, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Lipstick Jungle, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and as the boyfriend of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character on Divorce.

He was also a star of ABC’s short-lived The Rookie spin-off The Rookie: Feds, and portrayed NBA legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving in Showtime’s series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Vanessa Marcil as Sam Marquez

Like Duhamel, Vanessa Marcil got her big break on an ABC daytime soap. From 1992-98, she played Brenda Barrett on General Hospital, which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award.

She also co-starred in the Nicolas Cage movie The Rock, starred in Prince’s music video for “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” and was named to People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People list. In 1998, she joined primetime soap Beverly Hills 90210, playing Donna’s troublemaking cousin, Gina.

On Las Vegas, Marcil’s Sam was just as extra. Sam lived in a suite at the Montecito, and called herself the best host in the casino biz. She encouraged her reputation as a tough, unemotional businesswoman obsessed only with her career, though eventually showed a (somewhat) softer side. She ended the series with plans to marry Vic (Charlie Koznick), the brother of her dead ex-husband.

Post-Las Vegas, Marcil, who was once married to former child star Corey Feldman, has starred in TV movies for Lifetime and Hallmark, made two separate returns to General Hospital, and starred in the Pop network docuseries Queens of Drama, in which she and fellow daytime and primetime soap stars Donna Mills, Lindsay Hartley, Hunter Tylo, Crystal Hunt, and Chrystee Pharris try to create and produce a new TV drama.

Molly Sims as Delinda Deline: Las Vegas cast

Model and MTV House of Style host, Molly Sims, had her breakout acting role with Delinda, daughter of Ed and Jillian, entertainment manager at the Montecito, and lover of Danny.

She and Danny are happily in a relationship and about to have their first child together at the end of season five, when Delinda begins bleeding after the shock of presumed-dead resort owner A.J. turns out to be very much alive. The outcome of that storyline is one of the biggest cliffhangers of the shortened final season.

Post-Las Vegas, Sims has made guest appearances on Saturday Night Live, Project Runway, Royal Pains, and The Carrie Diaries, she was a guest co-host on The View, and she hosted the Project Runway spin-off series Project Accessory.

Marsha Thomason as Nessa Holt

British actress Marsha Thomason had her breakout role on American TV playing Nessa, the head pit boss at the casino. Nessa’s father was a deceitful gambler who was forced to begin working for the CIA.

He eventually faked his death to escape his notorious past. And though she and Mike were close to starting a relationship, it’s explained at the beginning of season three that, off-camera, she has taken on a new identity so she can go live with her father and sister. Mike didn’t even get a goodbye from her.

Thomason has had a very busy career since leaving Las Vegas, with recurring roles on Lost,Easy Money, General Hospital, White Collar, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Good Doctor, SEAL Team, Magnum P.I. and Better Things.

Tom Selleck as A.J. Cooper: Las Vegas cast

Original Emmy-winning Magnum P.I. legend Tom Selleck, also known for his movie career classic Three Men and a Baby, and his fan-favorite recurring role as Monica’s older boyfriend Richard on Friends, joined Las Vegas in season five.

Billionaire A.J. was a Marine vet and cattle rancher who bought the Montecito when new owner Sam couldn’t pay the hefty tax bill she was stuck with when she inherited the resort from Casey. Irreverent A.J. stirred things up with the Montecito and its staff, and in the series finale, he was thought killed in a plane crash, only to show up alive and well at his own memorial service.

After Las Vegas, Selleck has continued to star in a series of Jess Stone movies (based on the books by Robert B. Parker) on CBS, and since 2010, he has starred as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on the CBS police procedural/family drama Blue Bloods, which will end its 14-season run in 2024.

Lara Flynn Boyle as Monica Mancuso

Twin Peaks breakout and The Practice Emmy-nominee Lara Flynn Boyle joined Las Vegas in season three, playing new owner Monica, whose tough ways made her unpopular with the staff. She had become wealthy when she inherited the fortune of the 83-year-old she’d married when she was 25, but she was more focused on proving she was a shrewd businesswoman than she was in making friends.

Less than halfway through season three, Monica became another example of the show’s offbeat tonal shifts when she was blown off the roof of the Montecito by a gust of wind, only to be cremated and flushed down the toilet of her suite at the resort.

Since her brief stint on Las Vegas, Boyle’s biggest TV role was a guest appearance on a 2008 episode of Law & Order, and she co-starred with Ewan McGregor, Ellen Burstyn, and F. Murray Abraham in the 2023 dramedy film Mother, Couch.

Dean Cain as Casey Manning: Las Vegas cast

After Lis & Clark star Dean Cain took off his Superman cape, he played Casey, Sam’s billionaire ex-husband, who bought the Montecito and left it to Sam after his death … one of the kookiest in primetime history: he was taken down by a giant squid during a fishing trip in New Zealand (it turned out he’d actually been poisoned before the squid-cident).

After his stint on Las Vegas, Cain became a regular star in made-for-TV movies (especially of the Christmas-themed variety), and a series of dog-themed cable/direct-to-video films beginning with The Dog Who Saved Christmas, and followed by The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation, The Dog Who Saved Halloween, The Dog Who Saved the Holidays, The Dog Who Saved Easter, and The Dog Who Saved Summer.

He also had a recurring role on Supergirl, played a pro basketball coach on the VH-1/BET sports drama Hit the Floor, and had a recurring role on the Emma Stone dark comedy The Curse on Paramount+.

Cheryl Ladd as Jillian Deline

Ed’s longtime wife and Delinda’s mom, played by Charlie’s Angels legend Cheryl Ladd, had grown frustrated with Ed’s all-consuming time on the job at the Montecito.

Though she had threatened to leave him if he purchased the casino, she stood by him when she learned Delinda was going to have their first grandchild. But when Ed went into hiding after he was accused of killing Mary’s dad, Jillian did leave him.

Ladd’s TV resume since Las Vegas has included guest appearances on CSI: Miami, NCIS, Chuck, Anger Management, Ballers, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and being a contestant on season 31 of Dancing with the Stars.
