Lauryn Hill and the Fugees cancel tour days before it was set to begin
Representatives for the band and LiveNation have not given a reason for the last-minute change.
No tour, no cry. Days before Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees were set to kick off their new tour, all of the dates were cancelled by Ticketmaster.
No reason was given for the abrupt change in plans. Representatives for the Fugees and LiveNation did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment. Hill's most recent tweet was posted in June to promote the tour, while Wyclef Jean's most recent tweet, from July 21, was about quitting Twitter (or rather, "unplugging from the Matrix for awhile").

The cancellation is extra disappointing to fans since the Fugees have only sporadically reunited since the release of their second album, The Score, in 1996. Hill's first solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was released in 1998 and remains one of the most beloved and critically-acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time (EW gave it a glowing review at the time, and was not alone in that). She still has not recorded or released a follow-up.
Last year, Hill announced a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her landmark album. She was joined by the Fugees at select dates, such as their performance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City last September. But in October, Hill canceled a planned show in Philadelphia at the last minute, citing her need to rest her voice. The show was rescheduled for Nov. 25, but then on Nov. 22, Hill said the remainder of the tour would be postponed until 2024.

In June 2024, Hill and the Fugees announced a co-headlining tour that was set to kick off Aug. 9 in Tampa, Fla., and play other U.S. dates through September, after which the tour would transition to European dates in October and November. That doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
Even beyond frequent cancellations, Hill is known for showing up late to the concerts she does perform.
"Y’all lucky I make it on this stage every night," Hill told the crowd at a performance in L.A. on Nov. 5, 2023. “I don’t do it because they let me do it. I do it because I stand here in the name of God and I do it."
At this point, some fans are starting to take her at her word.
"If you bought tickets to a Lauryn Hill show in 2024, you deserve everything that happened to you," Twitter user @big_business_ posted after news of the latest cancellations.
"I want somebody to believe in me the way Lauryn Hill ticket holders believe they'll get to see her perform," added Twitter user @kiraalex.
