Lauryn Hill's Touring Company Sued For Unpaid Services Of Almost $60,000

MLH Touring Inc., the company promoting Lauryn Hill's Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Anniversary Tour, has been sued for breach of contract.

The touring company seems to have gotten in trouble with its service provider over the Neo Soul singer's tour. According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, MLH Touring Inc. was sued for nearly $60,000 in unpaid services and other compensatory demands.

The postponement of Lauryn Hill's 25th Anniversary Tour made waves in 2023; however, this is the first lawsuit related to the singer's show.

In the documents, Eighteentwentysix LLC, a California service provider, filed an unlimited civil case against MLH Touring Inc. for breach of contract and owed fees. The agency claimed it entered a written agreement with the touring company in or about August 2023.

Eighteentwentysix was responsible for the production, rehearsals, and other details to ensure the smooth operation of Hill's North America tour. This expensive venture saw it racking up a bill of $59,175.89.

However, MLH Touring allegedly failed to make the necessary payments when due despite the service provider's repeated demands. Hence, Eighteentwentysix was asking for the owed sum and interest at the rate of 10% from December 5, 2023, the date of their last invoice.

The service agency also requested that Hill's touring company cover their attorney fees, the costs incurred in filing the lawsuit, and any other relief deemed just and fair by the Court.

The complaint comes six months after the "Doo Wop (That Thing)" singer announced the postponement of her tour.

Last November, Hill revealed she would not be able to continue the Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Anniversary Tour until 2024.

In a statement released to The Blast, she expressed her appreciation to fans who participated in the celebrations; however, she had to drop the mic.

"As many of you may know, I've been battling serious vocal strain for the past month. I made it through each show by taking prescribed Prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time," Hill explained.

She continued saying, "In order to prevent any long-term negative effect [SIC] on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely."

"The shows that were canceled this year will be rescheduled for early 2024 AND because of the overwhelming response, we'll be adding new cities to the tour, including overseas. We're working on the new calendar now, and announcing soon."

While Hill is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of her generation, the same could not be said about her abilities as a mother.

The Blast reported the singer's daughter, Selah Marley, dropped shocking revelations about her in a 2020 Instagram Live session.

Selah recalled growing up with the 49-year-old was challenging, saying: "She was just very angry. She was very, very angry. So so so angry. She was unapproachable, not easy to talk to." She continued:

"I was living with my grandparents half the time. She was just very angry. And so, when we got disciplined, it's crazy, I'm playing this trauma back in my head."

Selah claimed that she was walking to her death whenever her mother told her to get the belt for a disciplinary session. "My mother is an amazing woman, but she obviously didn't do everything right," she noted.

Naturally, the story about her mother's strict discipline went viral, forcing Selah to clarify that she wasn't bashing her parents. She noted that her story was about her journey to healing from a common experience and not to shame the singer.

"The discussion that I had was a larger conversation about a certain trauma that I experienced from a lack of unity in the household," Selah explained, adding:

"This is nothing new. This is commonplace for many people & I'm glad so many of you were about to resonate with the healing that I speak of."

"But please do not go bashing my parents right now—especially my father. I never said I did not love him. I said that their shortcomings created trauma that I now need to consciously and actively heal from," Hill's daughter concluded.
