Laverne Cox Dons Strappy Black Pumps with Leather Opera Gloves and a Dramatic Fascinator in New York City
Laverne Cox has been busy on the press circuit promoting her new Prime Video comedy series “Clean Slate.” So, it’s no wonder that the award-winning actress and activist was spotted in a glamorous getup on the streets of New York City on Monday.
Snapped outside of ABC Studios in Manhattan, Cox showed off a business chic look with a retro flair. She wore a black and white checked blazer featuring short sleeves, a classic noticed collar, and four black buttons down the front. The “Orange is the New Black” alum styled the short-sleeve blazer — which called to mind 1930s and ’40s fashion — cinched at the waist with a skinny leopard-print belt.

Cox also pinned a black floral brooch to the lapel of the blazer. The rest of her elegant look included a figure-hugging black slip skirt that flowed just past the knees, edgy black leather opera gloves, and a black fascinator featuring a bow-inspired design and a dramatic mesh veil.
Cox tied the head-turning ensemble together with a pair of strappy black leather pumps boasting a timeless pointed-toe silhouette and soaring stiletto heels. The style, which complemented her gloves, featured a rounded vamp and two buckled straps. While one slender strap fastened across the top of the foot, the other was secured at the ankle. A number of luxury shoe brands offer similar styles, including Larroudé, Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo, Gianvito Rossi, and Aquazzura.
The “Inventing Anna” actress also wore chunky diamond earrings and skin-toned fishnet stockings. Cox is no stranger to making fashion statements on and off the red carpet. At the New York City premiere of “Clean Slate” (available to stream Feb. 6), she hit the blue carpet in a show-stopping black leather corset look complete with the same leather opera gloves and coordinating black leather Mulger Fang mules.
Similarly, at the New York City premiere of “The Apprentice” in October 2024, Cox displayed an avant-garde ensemble that included a see-through corset top with a metallic breastplate and a glittering silver miniskirt with an asymmetrical ruffle hem from David Koma. The multi-hyphenate wore silver metallic reptile-embossed pumps and accessorized with vintage jewelry from Mugler.
