Leonardo DiCaprio movie crew hiring background actors for San Diego scenes

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Do you want to be hired as an extra for a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro?

According to FOX 5/KUSI’s reporting partners at The San Diego Union-Tribune, casting directors for the film, referred to as the “BC Project,” are now looking to hire background actors to appear in night scenes that will be shot in San Diego later this month.

DiCaprio was spotted filming in the Borrego Springs area last month, with a behind-the-scenes glance of a chase-and-crash scene, as well as some sights with the actor holding a firearm.

The movie is suspected to be a modern adaptation of the 1990 Thomas Pynchon novel “Vineland.” According to Goodreads, the book is about “a group of Americans in Northern California in 1984 that are struggling with the consequences of their lives in the 60s.”

As explained by the The San Diego Union-Tribune, the casting directors –Tracy Dixon and Kelly Hunt — are looking for Latino men, women and children to play as extras. The pair will be holding interviews over the phone between July 21-24.

The pay rate is $136 for each work day (eight hours), with some overtime opportunities possible. If chosen, the film crew could pay some actors extra to use their personal vehicles during the filming.

Interested actors are instructed to send a couple current photo with their age, height, weight, clothing sizes and phone number to the following email address: [email protected]. Actors age 17 and under will be required to have parent/guardian permission.
