LiB’s Daniel Says He Would Have ‘Told Production’ If He Recognized Taylor Amid Instagram Drama
Love Is Blind star Daniel Hastings found himself in the hot seat after his fiancée, Taylor Haag, revealed that she thought he had followed her on Instagram before they arrived to film the show. However, in the newest season 8 episodes, Daniel doubled down on his claims that he didn’t know Taylor prior to when they saw each other face-to-face after the pods.
"I would've told production halfway through if I'd recognized anything,” Daniel, 30, told Taylor, 32.
The colonoscopy nurse explained that she had an app on her phone that kept track of the people who followed her and unfollowed her on Instagram, and Daniel continued to stick by his story.
"It's very possible that at one point I followed you and unfollowed you. It's possible. I don't know why I would've. I don't remember it. I just don't remember it. I remember faces. If I saw you, I'd remember," Daniel said.
A Love Is Blind producer offered Taylor her phone to check the app, and when she did, she found no evidence that Daniel had ever followed her on Instagram. She admitted that she felt “crazy,” but the sales account executive was quick to console her.
"No, please don't feel crazy. My feelings for you haven't changed and I hope ... Do you believe me?” Daniel asked, to which Taylor confirmed that she did. "I promise you I didn't know [what you looked like]. I promise. Whatever you need to do to process, I'm OK with. I'd love to go to [the couple’s trip in] Honduras with you. If you have reservations about that, I'd love to go back home with you. Either way, wherever you go, I'm in.”
Taylor and Daniel’s conversation likely put fans at ease after episode 6 of Love Is Blind season 8 ended on a cliffhanger. When viewers last saw Taylor, she was holding back tears as she explained that she was afraid Daniel had used information found on her Instagram profile to manipulate her into a relationship.
“I started to think of all of the big points that brought us so close together that seemed like fate. But then it was like, ‘Is this too good to be true?’ Which I did talk about in the pods because it was so harmonious leading up to that cliffhanger,” Taylor said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Wednesday, February 19. “And at that time, I was a single girl — it wasn't uncommon for single guys to follow me on social media, it was almost like a dating app in a sense too, like meeting new people. So based on a lot of different factors, that's kind of the conclusion I had come to in my head."
Some viewers were skeptical that Taylor’s story was genuine and some suggested that she fabricated it because she wasn’t attracted to Daniel. However, she slammed the claims.
“I’ve received quite a bit of harsh opinions … The overwhelming response that I’ve received is that I’ve made up this whole elaborate story to not look like a bad guy because I just wasn’t attracted to Daniel,” Taylor told the publication. “It’s really shocking to me how quickly people come to these conclusions on your character based on a six-minute clip of a television show.”
