Lil Durk Shares Journey Of Entering Rehab For Codeine And Xanax
Lil Durk has opened up about his past struggles with substance abuse and his journey to sobriety in hopes to heal Chicago.
Durk was recently asked about his past drug use and candidly shared that stopping “was tough,” but rehab ultimately helped him to become “a better man, a better father, a better leader.”
In a video shared by TMZ, the “All My Life” rapper said, “It was tough at first but it ain’t that tough because I really knew what I wanted. I knew what was holding me back. I wanted better. I wanted to be a better man, a better father, a better leader. But more action, so I gotta make sure that the self is good before anybody else.”
Durk expressed that sobriety helped him to “think clearer.” He explained that when he was heavily involved in drug use, he was “moving fast, making excuses,” and “letting the drugs take over me.” He admitted to using Codeine and Xanax.
“I can see myself just staying on the right track and trying to change a lot of lives,” he added.
Now Durk is trying his best to heal his hometown by spreading his own journey with substance abuse and working to “get the foundation down” for a rehab facility in Chicago.
To further reflect on how far he’s come, Durk dropped “Old Days” this year, where he talks about the effects that drugs had on him and how he had to change up his environment. Durk also shared his journey with therapy last year in a cover story with XXL after going through many challenges.
“I got a therapist so I cope different. … I don’t show emotion,” he said at the time. “So, some people will be like, ‘Man, you can’t hold it in.’ And I just can’t talk to nobody usually. You gotta be careful how you tell people, what you tell people, because they can use it against you. They can find out your weaknesses. So now, when I talk to the therapist, then it start getting more emotional. But like somebody on the street, you’ll never even see me shed a tear.”
