Lilly Hiatt performs with Nathan Graham at The Acorn in Three Oaks

THREE OAKS — Lilly Hiatt performs with Nathan Graham at 8 p.m. Sept. 23 at The Acorn, 107 Generations Drive.

The daughter of acclaimed singer-songwriter John Hiatt, she began playing guitar at the age of 12, when he gave her a 1953 parlor-size Martin.

With a strong country/roots rock influence, Hiatt’s music is also steeped in tough, guitar-based rock, and her lyrics are unflinchingly personal missives about complicated relationships and the rocky side of life’s road.

She graduated from the University of Denver in 2006 with a degree in psychology and formed a band there, Shake Go Down, with fellow students. She made her recording debut in 2008 by singing backing vocals on her father’s “Same Old Man” album.

Since 2012, she has released five solo albums: “Let Down,” 2015’s “Royal Blue,” 2017’s “Trinity Lane,” 2020’s “WalkingProof” and 2021’s “Lately.”

She describes “Lately” as a photograph of the solitude and connectedness through shared grief that she felt in the first year of the pandemic.
