Lionsgate Extends Scandinavian Output Deal Following ‘Divergent’ Launch
Lionsgate has signed an expanded multiyear output deal with longstanding partner Nordisk Film in Scandinavia following the launch of Shailene Woodley’s “Divergent” in that market.
Lionsgate and Nordisk had signed an output deal in 2012, when the studio made a string of similar pacts with West Company for Russia and the CSI, Studiocanal in Germany, Metropolitan in France, Belga Films in Benelux and Roadshow Films in Australia.
Lionsgate said the new agreement with Nordisk covers the next three “Divergent” franchise films — “Insurgent,” due out in March and the two “Allegiant” titles, which will open in March, 2016, and March, 2017. It also covers the two “Mockingjay” films in the “Hunger Games” franchise, “Now You See Me 2,” “Gods of Egypt” and “Child 44.”
“Lionsgate and Summit have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with Nordisk over the years, partnering on nearly 200 films, including the launch of the ‘Twilight,’ ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Divergent’ franchises,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman.
