Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is known for the extraordinary cinematic action sequences that he adds to his directorial ventures. Along with the action, another element that his movies have is comedy. After gaining prominence with the Golmaal franchise, the director began a cop-based film franchise, aka Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. These movies feature the biggest stars of Bollywood, playing either police officers or the most dreaded villains. From Singham to Sooryavanshi, the Cop Universe has a number of films and one web series.

Singham

The 2011 action drama Singham marked the beginning of Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. The filmmaker introduced viewers to the honest police officer Bajirao Singham, played by Ajay Devgn. The plot of this film has been adapted from Suriya’s 2010 Tamil movie Singam. It revolves around how a policeman teaches a corrupt politician a lesson. Besides Devgn, the movie also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Prakash Raj, Sonali Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar, Anant Jog, and others.

Singham Returns

Ajay Devgn again stepped into the shoes of Bajirao Singham in Singham Returns. The movie saw him fight against a criminal who poses as a spiritual guru in society. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the movie entertained the audience thoroughly. The film also featured Kareena Kapoor Khan as Singham’s love interest, while Amole Gupte, Anupam Kher, Zakir Hussain, and others portrayed supporting characters.

Simmba

Ranveer Singh entered Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe with the 2018 movie Simmba. It follows the titular character, a corrupt police officer in Goa. However, when a woman is killed by a drug cartel, he changes to fight for the truth. It also stars Sara Ali Khan playing the leading lady and a cameo by Ajay Devgn as Singham.

The movie’s official synopsis reads, “Simmba enjoys being an immoral and unethical police officer until a life-changing event transforms him and forces him to choose the righteous path.”

Sooryavanshi

After a long break of almost three years, Rohit Shetty added another flick, Sooryavanshi, to his franchise. Akshay Kumar plays the titular role in the movie, who fights against a terrorist group planning a bomb attack in India. Katrina Kaif, playing his better half in the film, also has a crucial role to play. However, the highlight of this action drama is the special appearances by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.

Streaming on Netflix, the movie’s official synopsis reads, “A fearless, faithful (and only slightly forgetful) Mumbai cop pulls out all the stops — and stunts — to thwart a major conspiracy to attack his city.”

Indian Police Force

Rohit Shetty entered the digital world in 2024 with the Amazon Prime Video web series Indian Police Force. In it, Sidharth Malhotra played the role of Kabir Malik IPS, while Vivek Oberoi, Shilpa Shetty, and Nikitin Dheer portrayed supporting characters. The show follows the thrilling story of a Delhi police officer who has to battle an insidious adversary. However, the chase is filled with sacrifices and major twists.

Singham Again

The third installment in the Ajay Devgn starrer Singham franchise, Singham Again, is all set to be released soon. The upcoming movie will follow the events of Sooryavanshi, in which the cops are against a powerful terrorist played by Jackie Shroff. Besides Devgn and Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Kareena Kapoor Khan will reprise their respective roles. Moreover, the movie will also feature Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff entering the Cop Universe.

Singham Again will be released on the occasion of Diwali 2024.

In conclusion, Rohit Shetty has been expanding his Cop Universe with more and more titles. As Deepika Padukone is debuting in the film franchise this year, the director has confirmed that his upcoming movies will be more based on female cops.
