Live-action “Snow White” teaser reveals first look at Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen

"She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical, I got to sing all these different songs — it was incredible," the "Wonder Woman" star said at D23.

Gal Gadot has switched from superhero to Evil Queen.

At Disney’s D23 fan event on Friday in Anaheim, Calif., the studio unveiled the first teaser for the live-action remake of Snow White, which features our first glimpse of the Wonder Woman star as the villainous monarch. “Magic mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?” Gadot says in the trailer.

As is tradition for the latest batch of Disney live-action remakes, Gadot’s look is unsurprisingly faithful to the design of the character in the original 1937 movie, which was Disney’s first feature-length animation project. The live-action Evil Queen has a tall, pointy crown, a headpiece that conceals her hair, and a purple dress with long, billowy sleeves.

Gadot discussed playing the villain on stage at D23. “It was a lot of fun to get to do something completely different than anything I’ve ever done before,” she said during a panel. “She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical, I got to sing all these different songs — it was incredible.”

The footage also offers more glimpses of the dwarfs, showing their silhouettes as they walk to (or from?) their work in the mines before giving a clear view of Doc, Grumpy, Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, and Dopey as they dance with Snow White in their cottage.

Of course, the real star of the teaser is West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actress Rachel Zegler, who is playing the titular princess. Zegler sings “Whistle While You Work,” gazes longingly into a well, and journeys through a forest before being attacked by a moving tree and encountering a friendly deer (hopefully not a Bambi crossover, but you can never rule these things out at this point).

Zegler gushed about having the opportunity to play Disney’s first princess. “It’s just been the honor of a lifetime,” she said. “Any young person, any little girl, you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day, let alone six months in London on these incredible sets in a Sandy Powell-designed dress — it’s just been the most amazing experience, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”

The trailer ends with a gnarled hand (presumably Gadot’s, post-transformation) offering Snow White a deadly red apple. Maybe she won’t eat it this time!
