Liza Minnelli, Lady Gaga warm hearts amid chaotic Oscars night: Watch the tender moment
In the midst of a chaotic — and briefly violent — Oscars ceremony, one moment from the broadcast is making waves on social media in a positive way.
That moment was the tender exchange between Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli, who appeared alongside the "House of Gucci" star as a surprise best picture presenter.
"You see that? The public, they love you," Gaga, 36, told Minnelli, 76, whose introduction was followed by a standing ovation inside the Dolby Theater.
When Minnelli appeared to struggle with the sheets of paper she was holding and muttered "I don't understand," Gaga gracefully assisted her, saying "I got it" and taking the musical theater icon by the hand.
"Good evening. You know how I love working with legends," Gaga began. "And I'm honored to present the final award of the evening with a true, show business legend."
This is like a lesson in how to facilitate older people while honouring who they are.
What a class act by @ladygaga with legend Liza Minnelli.

The crowd erupted into applause again for Minnelli, who was celebrating the 50th anniversary of 1972's "Cabaret," for which she won the Oscar for best actress.
Minnelli, who appeared in a wheelchair, proceeded to introduce this year's best picture nominees. When she started to stumble over her words, Gaga smoothly picked up the cue and helped her along.
At the end of the presentation, the pop singer knelt down by Minnelli and softly said "I got you." Minnelli whispered back "I know."
Viewers flocked to Twitter to praise the sweet moment between two music legends.

"Lady Gaga telling Liza Minnelli 'I got you' on stage at the Academy Awards in an industry and society that so rarely takes care of its older women. My heart needed that," wrote @jamietunkel on Twitter. "One day I hope someone will be there to say 'I got you' too."
User @Kevin_Jacobsen said the moment showed Lady Gaga could be an excellent choice to host next year's Oscars.
"I honestly think Lady Gaga should host the Oscars next year," the tweet continued. "It's clear from her interactions with Liza Minnelli (and others over the years) that she has great respect for legacy, which is what the Oscars need more of, and she obviously knows how to work a crowd. Lock her in now!"
Twitter users also pointed out how the sweet moment stood in contrast to the rest of the Oscars ceremony. Earlier in the night, viewers witnessed a shocking exchange, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face and yelled obscenities after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith's bald head.
"On a different night, Lady Gaga whispering 'I got you' and Liza Minelli saying 'I know' would be the story that stuck with people," wrote @Yishai20.
"The class, kindness and glowing #respect Lady Gaga showed toward Liza Minnelli made up for a lot about this nutty evening, and I promise you I will have a soft spot for Gaga for the rest of my life," wrote @selfstyledsiren.
