Local artists illustrate Wellfleet's beach stickers. See the 2023 winners this weekend.
The work of four local artists chosen to illustrate Wellfleet’s 2023 beach stickers will be on display this month at Great Pond Gallery in Wellfleet’s Adult Community Center.
The show will feature the works of Amy Thureson Herold, Nora Clark-Jennings, Nicole Mordecai and Josh Yeston. A reception for the artists will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 13.
“The town’s unique program of including local artists on its official beach stickers has created a mobile gallery with nearly every car in Wellfleet and thousands of visitors from across the United States showcasing the original artwork on their vehicles,” according to a written release from the program’s organizers Director of Community Services Suzanne Grout Thomas and the Wellfleet Cultural District.
Started in 2019 by the Cultural District’s steering committee Co-Chair Gigi Ledkovsky, previous winners include such artists and photographers as Victor Ruddi, Molly Kasakoff, Dianne Longchamps, Tom Baratz, Keith MacLelland and Janet Doub Erickson.
This year’s focus was images of the Wellfleet aquaculture industry and its beauty. Dozens of images competed to grace the beach stickers.
“The stunning images chosen in partnership with Bob Rindler certainly exceeded our goal of celebrating the hardworking women and men in our local aquaculture industries,” says Grout Thomas in the written release. “I’m happy these artworks will grace thousands of vehicles and be exhibited at the Adult Community Center.”
The exhibit, which marks the first time the chosen beach sticker artists have received such a showcase, is part of an ongoing series highlighting different local artists each month under the direction of Rindler.
The exhibit is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily throughout May at the Great Pond Gallery at the Wellfleet’s Adult Community Center (Council on Aging), 715 Old King’s Highway, Wellfleet. Admission is free.
