Local playwrights to perform next week
Two local playwrights will perform their work in solo shows in Scranton from Thursday through Sunday. “Acting Alone: Two Solo Plays on One Stage,” at Lackawanna College, will showcase Maureen McGuigan and Mandy Pennington. It is presented by the Scranton Fringe Festival.
McGuigan’s work “Remember You Must Die” is an encore performance from its original staging at the 2023 Scranton Fringe Festival. It uses humor to look at death. McGuigan is director of arts and culture for Lackawanna County.
Pennington is premiering “Girl Walks Into A Movie Theater,” a coming-of-age play about her first job at the Gateway Cinema in Edwardsville. She worked there for two years, until shortly before it closed in 2006. It was developed as part of her time as an MFA student with the Maslow Creative Family Writing Program at Wilkes University. She is Wilkes University's director of digital strategy.
Performances on Thursday and Friday are at 7 p.m. Masks are required for Thursday's audience. There will be two performances Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at scrantonfringe.org.
Peoples Security Theater at Lackawanna College is at 501 Vine St., Scranton.
The 2024 Scranton Fringe Festival, a display of theater, film, music and visual arts, is Sept. 26 to Oct. 6 in venues across Scranton. The schedule will be announced soon.
