'Logan' Shares Hints in New Photos and Storyboards
Hand It to the Reavers?
Whether this is a photo of Boyd Holbrook's Donald Pierce (who definitely has a mecha-hand), or one of his minions, Wolverine certainly won't be the only one with metal appendages in "Logan." (Photo: @wponx/Instagram)
At Your ‘Convenience’
While "Logan" will take place in some sort of post-mutant-apocalypse universe, it appears that junk-food will survive. (Photo: @wponx/Instagram)
Not at ‘Liberty’ to Say…
No clues yet as to the role this Motor Motel will play in ‘Logan,’ but it gets across the gone-to-seed nature of the world Wolverine now inhabits. (Photo: @wponx/Instagram)
In the Still of the Night
This moody black-and-white nighttime shot features Jackman's hero, alone, in the aftermath of a kill, giving its caption, ‘Silence,’ a double meaning. (Photo: @wponx/Instagram)
Choose Your ‘Weapon’
Did you think Wolverine was going to restrict himself to just his adamantium claws in combat? Seems a steel rod of some sort may also come in handy as a tool of anti-Reaver destruction. (Photo: @wponx/Instagram)
In this storyboard of Wolverine eyeing a motel from a distance, artist Gabriel Hardman captures the bleak, borderline-noir atmosphere sought by director James Mangold. (Photo: mang0ld/Twitter)
Lest anyone think Hugh Jackman’s post-apocalyptic Wolverine wasn’t going to be a killing machine anymore, this low-angled storyboard image by Gabriel Hardman confirms he’ll be engaged in plenty of adamantium-clawed action. (Photo: mang0ld/Twitter)
Director James Mangold shared this black-and-white snapshot of the plains set beneath an imposing sky, captioned “Open” — more evidence of a rough, hardscrabble Western vibe that will define this world-without-mutants tale. (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Logan
In 'Logan,' Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has become a weathered desert desperado with a diminished healing factor, but despite his beaten-and-bruised body, director James Mangold’s mirror-image photo of the mutant — boasting his usual chiseled muscles — proves the actor’s gym-rat preparation for the role hasn’t changed. (Photo: @mang0ld/Twitter)
Meet X-23
The caption "Laura" on this Instagram image is a pretty clear sign Dafne Keen’s role in 'Logan' is as Laura Kinney, a.k.a X-23, a mutant introduced by Marvel in 2004. When Professor X tells Logan "She’s like you. Very much like you," in the film's trailer, he's hinting at her comic-book origins: She’s a female clone of Wolverine, from a re-creation of the Weapon X experiment that gave him his retractable claws and regenerative healing powers. The New (That Is, Old) Logan
Scarred and gray, the first official profile shot of Hugh Jackman in “Logan” confirms that this Wolverine be weathered and wounded — and, it appears, also without his trademark pointy-headed hairdo. (Photo: mang0ld/Twitter)
Leave It to ‘Reaver’
The introduction of the Reavers — a band of cyborg militants with a grudge against Wolverine, represented by actor David Kallaway in this photo posted to the film's Instagram — makes sense: In the comics, they’re led by Donald Pierce (played in “Logan” by Boyd Holbrook). (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Stephen Merchant’s Role Revealed?
Stephen Merchant’s role in “Logan” officially remains unknown, but this photo of the actor taken and tweeted by director James Mangold — with a bald head, pasty complexion, and foreboding stare — fuels speculation he’ll be playing Caliban, a rogue mutant who was briefly featured in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” His ties to Boyd Holbrook’s villain Donald Pierce remain a mystery. (Photo: @mang0ld/Twitter)
Let the Caliban-ter Begin
As if director James Mangold’s image of Stephen Merchant wasn’t creepy enough, the actor posted an even more unnerving self-portrait to Instagram (captioned “How I Spent My Summer”), in which his (rumored-to-be-Caliban) baddie looks like a mutant desperado, lurking in the shadows of a shot-up shack. ’62’ Pick-up
Last week’s “Prom” photo featured a sign indicating that at least some of “Logan” would take place in El Paso, Texas — a notion now all but confirmed by this shot of a highway sign, captioned ’62.’ (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Stall Tactics
This Logan tease, captioned 'Mutants,' shows a bathroom stall with a cryptic message — "Where Are All The Mutants?" — scrawled on it. Speculation continues that Hugh Jackman's final outing as Wolverine will be set in a dystopian future where superpowered mutants have been rendered an endangered species — if not eradicated — and where Logan operates as something of an aged, power-deficient nomad. Welcome to El Paso
The sign in the photo labeled ‘Prom’ on the movie’s Instagram page seems to ID the West Texas town as one spot where the action is — and spurred speculation that white-suited gent might be comic-book villain Arcade. (Photo: wponx/Instagram)

Fuel Your Imagination?

Meet the Bad Guy
Here’s the first image of Boyd Holbrook’s character, with the one-word caption “Pierce.” This appears to confirm that Holbrook (best known for Netflix series Narcos) will be playing 1980s Marvel Comics villain Donald Pierce, described by Collider as “a mutant-hating genocidal maniac.” (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Reservation Road?
This gritty, noir-ish shot of a motel sign reflected on the pavement sets a mood, and has fans searching for clues about the film, which takes place in the future. (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Aviso
A sign that warns against trespassers or loiterers, posted in Spanish, hints at a new location for the action in the third Wolverine film. (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
A Disarming Image
A severed hand in the dirt, fingers still curled tightly around a gun, is captioned “Aftermath.” (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
The Old Professor
Charles Xavier, mentor of the X-Men, was an old man in the first film; in this new image, Patrick Stewart’s character is approaching ancient. (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Read It and Weep for Logan
Page two of the ‘Logan’ screenplay, tweeted out by Mangold, describes an aging, depressed Wolverine: “He's older now and it's clear his abilities aren't what they once were. He's fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain — hence booze as a painkiller." (Photo: wponx/Instagram)
Giving Logan a Hand

Logan’s Able to Scale Tall Buildings, Too

Little by little, the mystery around the third — and presumably final for Hugh Jackman — Wolverine film is lifting. First, we learned in tweets from Jackman and director James Mangold that the movie would be called Logan, and saw the first poster art. That was followed by Instagram posts that announced in stark black-and-white images that the film would take advantage of its R rating to go for more images of graphic violence and a grittier feel. After that, a first look at baddie “Pierce” (played by Narcos’ Boyd Holbrook). As more images emerge leading up to Logan’s March 3, 2017, release date, we’ll add them to the slideshow here.
