Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter dead after ‘difficult health battle’
Lynn Massey, the oldest granddaughter of late country music legend Loretta Lynn, has died age 64.
The heartbreaking news was announced Thursday on an official Instagram account run by Lynn’s estate.
“Betty Sue’s daughter Lynn Massey, Loretta’s first grandchild, passed away this week after a long and difficult health battle,” the post read. “Our family is so grateful for the prayers and love continually shown to us.”
No further details about Massey’s illness were divulged.
Fans were left saddened by the news, with one writing: “Prayers to the family. Now she’s with Grandma.
Loretta Lynna died in 2022 at the age of 90.
The Kentucky-born country crooner — famed for songs including “Coal Miner’s Daughter” — became a grandmother to Massey when she was only in her 30s.
Lynn had six children and 26 grandchildren, including Emmy Russell, 24, who appeared on “American Idol” earlier this year.
Lynn, who got married at 15, used her impoverished childhood as the basis for many of her hits.
She also faced considerable tragedy even after earning fame and fortune with her glittering singing career.
Four of her six children preceded her in death.
Lynn’s oldest son Jack Benny Lynn was found dead by drowning in 1984 at the age of just 34.
Meanwhile, the crooner’s oldest daughter — and Massey’s mom — Betty Sue died of complications associated with emphesyma in 2013.
