‘Love Is Blind’ Star Sara’s Sister Lisa Is Wary of Her Relationship With Ben: ‘This Is Not Real Right Now’
Love Is Blind star Sara Carton’s family has major doubts about her quick engagement in the pods to Ben Mezzenga. Sara’s sister, Lisa, admitted she was struggling to accept the relationship after meeting her siblings’ new fiancée over drinks.
Fans watched as Sara, 29, and Ben, 28, discussed with Lisa and her partner, Kelsie, during episode 10 about how they shared similar morals despite their differing backgrounds. The oncology nurse mentioned that they intentionally discussed sensitive topics, such as the LGBTQ community and the church, both describing themselves as "fiscally conservative and socially liberal."
Kelsie had doubts that the Love Is Blind couple were on the same page and said Ben was in a “different privilege bucket” than Sara was. As soon as Ben left to get more drinks, Kelsie and Lisa both admitted they were struggling to be supportive of Ben and Kelsie’s relationship.
“I see that you have a strong connection, but this is not real right now,” Lisa told her.
Apart from their differing stances on various topics, the newly engaged couple faced a major hurdle when Sara was sent a TikTok video about an unnamed Love Is Blind season 8 male cast member — who was later identified as Ben. In the social media footage, the creator, a woman named Andra Berghoff, tearfully alleged that he had treated women terribly in the past. While she never mentioned Ben by name, she did say that the man played baseball for the University of Minnesota, and he’s the only member of the cast to have done that.
“I think she’s referencing me. I had seen it. Literally when we were at the brewery,” Ben addressed the video during episode 9. “I saw this come out, and I’m like, ‘Screw this.’ I don’t want to give her any ability to do anything with me if she decides to release my name or anything. I don’t want to give her control over that, so I blocked her. And because she had blocked me from seeing her TikTok feed.”
Ben claimed he met the woman on Tinder but they “never hooked up.” When Sara asked why the woman would block him, he replied, “Probably because she doesn’t want me to see this? I don’t know. I haven’t talked to her in over four years.”
“I wish I could give you a more, like, ‘Yeah, it was this dramatic breakup. I didn’t treat her well because of this reason or this reason.’ Or ‘I don’t feel proud of this or that,’ but like, I just honestly don’t remember. All I remember was it was four years ago, and it was a short amount of time that we were talking. I just honestly can’t remember what happened,” he continued.
Sara has spoken out about the messy situation with Ben, admitting she was “skeptical” of him during their discussion.
“I’ve trusted Ben, so I wanted to continue trusting him. But of course, this TikTok I needed to keep in the back of my mind. I wasn’t going to dismiss it or disregard it, by any means,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published on Tuesday, February 25. “I just felt very conflicted and there were feelings involved, and I didn’t want to end the relationship just because of this one thing when we were so happy. It wouldn’t feel right to me to just immediately drop it.”
