The Last Hootenanny comes to Cactus

The Last Hootenanny, featuring The Old Folkies, is set to take the stage at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave.

The Last Hootenanny will be one, huge sing-along of many of your favorites from the 1950s and ’60s - including folk, rock ’n’ roll, country, western, bluegrass, Irish and more - and it will be easy for you to participate as all of the lyrics will be projected on a large screen above the band.

The Old Folkies are all LHS and TTU graduates from many years ago and have been entertaining enthusiastic audiences most of their lives. The group includes longtime Hootenanny leader David Durham, guitar and vocals; Eldon Reynolds, guitar and vocals; Maggie Durham, bass and vocals and Kurt Melle, guitar and vocals. A recent addition to the lineup is John-Charles Kelly - flying in from New York City especially for this show!

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Mark Paden Emergency Relief Fund, Operation Pawprints to benefit a local animal rescue organization.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band brings farewell tour to Lubbock

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band berings its All the Good Times Farewell Tour to the Hub City Thursday, July 25, at the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall.

Nearing their fifth decade together Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, often cited as a catalyst for an entire movement in Country Rock and American Roots Music, continues to add to their legendary status.

Bartnick brings comedy to Cactus

Joe Bartnick will be Live in Lubbock with his touring stand-up comedy tour at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Cactus Theater.

Bartnick started as a comic performing in coffee shops and bars. He used talent and hustle to make his way to prestigious venues like Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks.

Bartnick can be seen doing standup on AXS-TVs Gotham Live, roasting Tommy Lee on A&E and acting on Playboy TV’s King of Clubs. Joe wrote the best-selling e- book “You Might Be a Douchebag.”

He parlayed his love of hockey into the popular podcast Puck Off.

Eagles tribute gets an encore presentation

The Caldwell Collective will have an encore presentation of its Eagles tribute at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Cactus Theater.

Fish brings Bulletproof tour to Cactus

Samantha Fish brings her Bulletproof Tour 2024 to the Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.

Grammy-nominated guitarist-singer Samantha Fish lights up every stage she’s on. In 2023, she concentrated on her side project Deathwish - which she founded along with country outlaw Jesse Dayton. George Lopez brings comedy to Lubbock

Comedian George Lopez brings his Alllriiiighhttt, Texas! tour to the Helen Devitt Jones Theater of Buddy Holly Hall at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.

Lopez is a Mexican-American comedian and actor. He is known for starring in his self-produced ABC sitcom "George Lopez". His stand-up comedy examines race and ethnic relations, including Mexican American culture.

Lopez has received several honors for his work and contributions to the Latino community, including the 2003 Imagen Vision Award, the 2003 Latino Spirit Award for Excellence in Television and the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Award. He was also named one of "The Top 25 Hispanics in America" by Time magazine in 2005.

Nunn to perform at Cactus

As a founding father of the progressive country music scene in Austin, Texas, in the 1970s, Gary P. Nunn helped change the face of popular music. With a career spanning half a century – and no plans for stopping anytime soon - Nunn is a proud ambassador for the state of Texas, singing about his love of everything Texas in dance halls around the state and on concert stages around the world.

'True West' to be staged at Crickets Theater

The Crickets Theater of Buddy Holly Hall will host the production of "True West" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24.

"True West" is a story about struggle in modern America. A longing for Family, Brotherhood and identity that’s told through the perspective of two brothers.

It shines a light on the American dream and how it doesn’t always turn out as one would hope for.

"Revealing how the long term effects of trying to make it take its toll on all of us. Family isn’t what we decide and the burdens of our predecessors are placed on us unwillingly.

"True West" is a story about the Old West that’s filled with gunslingers, outlaws, nomads and coyotes. Versus the New West that’s filled with smog, traffic, business suits and crickets. This play is meant to hold a mirror and ask what is really important in our lives.
