Lupe Fiasco Reveals He Still Hasn’t Listened To “Not Like Us” Or “Family Matters”
Over Lupe the weekend, Lupe Fiasco sparked discourse following comments he made about gatekeeping in Hip-Hop, the infamous Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, and more. To make matters more interesting, the Chicago rapper returned to reveal he hasn’t heard tracks like “Family Matters” by Drizzy and “Not Like Us” by the Compton emcee.
“You know I haven’t listened to any of the songs?” the Food & Liquor creator said in an X Spaces chat hosted by Joe Budden. “After the Ross response, I haven’t listened to anything. So, I haven’t heard any of the records; ‘Family Matters,’ ‘Meet The Grahams,’ ‘Not Like Us.’ I kinda tapped out.” This caught many listeners off guard, as the aforementioned tracks are widely regarded as the main portion of the overall battle.

During the Spaces, he also took a moment to clear up any speculation that he and Kendrick have existing tension. “I’m a Kendrick fan for more than his music,” Lupe responded to a listener. “I like his creativity and conceptualization. And the decisions that he makes. I also like his impact into the culture for Black folks. I like that he inspires Black folks. That’s why I never said I don’t like him.”
Elsewhere in another conversation, he shared his opinion about who should and shouldn’t be able to comment on the genre based on how knowledgeable they are. “If you want to start who is in and who is out, a process which I don’t agree with, and I think is bullsh*t, if you want to do that you should have a degree,” he said. “You should have a PhD in Hip-Hop. If you ain’t got that, then I don’t think that you are qualified to and have the right to speak on of Hip-Hop.”
He later clarified his sentiments by tweeting, “Thanx but Never really said that either. I said IF you want to be a person who gets to decide who is allowed in hiphop and who is not then you should have a PHD in HipHop. If the person you are trying to kick out of hip hop knows more than you about hip hop then thats not fair.” Listen to the Spaces and view his follow-up tweet below.

Kendrick fans saying he hating… people can say the same thing when it comes to Kendrick hating on Drake…let’s not do that ??that’s all I been seeing anytime someone say anything good about Drake? pic.twitter.com/vxk1r5t7Qg— ?TWEEZY? (@TweezySol) July 21, 2024
This isn’t the first time this year that Lupe trended in relation to K. Dot, as a previous comment he did resurfaced once the beef picked up back in May. Fans recalled the time he “apologized” to Kendrick after dissing him, which he recently walked back as well.
“I wasn’t apologizing to him lol,” Lupe Fiasco tweeted earlier this year. “I was sorry about the entire shindig because it was such a waste of time and energy in something that actually had nothing to do with me.”
He insisted fans stop placing narratives on his reputation, and that he isn’t afraid to take on any rapper if needed. “Keep my name clean… I fear no rapper of any kind or anytime… K Dot solid but y’all need to chill lol,” he concluded.
