Macy Gray Details TMI Side Effect of Taking Ozempic

Macy Gray is not trying to hide this side effect, it’s clear.

After all, the “I Try” singer recently shared that she began taking Ozempic, and detailed the reaction her body had to the type two diabetes drug that has been co opted for weight loss.

“Oh, boy my stomach hurts,” Macy told Kim Zolciak and Johnny Weir on the July 23 episode of The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets. “I took Ozempic. I can’t go to the bathroom, and I was up all night.”

The 56-year-old was met with a simple explanation from Kim, who noted, “Ozempic does that.”

As for why Macy has decided to try the semaglutide?

“Quietly, I’m kind of a vain person,” she explained. “I’ve gained a lot of weight over the past couple years, and this is right about the time when everybody starts talking about this Ozempic.”

And Macy—who also appears on the MTV show alongside Tyler Posey, O.T. Genasis, Josie Canseco, Chet Hanks and Ally Brooke—noted that her weight was on her mind leading up to her appearance on the series.

“I was actually trying to take it off before the show because I didn’t want to be super fat on TV, but here we are,” Macy said of her weight. “So, I thought, okay, I’m not taking it off the right way, let me see if I can get one of these Ozempic.”

Of course, Macy isn’t the only celebrity who has gotten candid about her trials and tribulations with the drug. In fact, Oprah Winfrey shared her thoughts on the weight loss medication—and why she’s being up front about taking it.

“The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she explained to People in December. “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

Meanwhile, Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum Jon Gosselin recently admitted his only regret with the drug is that he didn’t start using it sooner.

“You know what's annoying?” he told Page Six in April. “The regret of not starting it 10 years ago. I feel amazing! Like, why didn't I do this sooner? Maybe it wasn't the right time.”
