Madeline Edwards offers new Apple Music 'Lost & Found' cover of Busbee-produced P!nk song
Madeline Edwards' star-studded country music alignments continue as the former CMT Equal Access program artist who has toured with chart-toppers Elle King and Chris Stapleton, plus performed with Alanis Morrissette has paired with Apple Music's "Lost & Found" series to release a take on P! nk's 2019, rare edition-released "Hurts 2B Human" album track "More," a Busbee-written and Ben West-produced track.
Apple Music's "Lost & Found" program spotlights unreleased country tracks recorded in Spatial Audio via a six-episode Apple Music Radio program hosted by multiple-time Grammy-winning songwriter Lori McKenna.
Insofar as "More," Edwards is featured in conversations with "Today's Country" host Kelleigh Bannen and spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.
The latter conversation is currently available on demand at https://apple.co/_Zane,
To McKenna, Edwards noted that she was "terrified" to sing on a song that P!nk sang on because of the stature of success the seller of over 135 million records worldwide (60 million albums and 75 million singles) has had in her near three-decade-long career.
"[It would be like asking] 'Would you like to recut an Adele song?' I'm like, 'I don't know about that. I don't know if that's a good idea.' So, it was more of a challenge than anything. Once I had some time with it and sang it in my shower alone, I was okay with taking it and cutting it."
Notably, veteran producer Busbee's mid-2010s work, including Maren Morris' 2017 hit "My Church," exploded his pop-to-country-to-crossover stardom. However, in 2019, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, and died on Sept. 29 in Los Angeles.
Edwards continues, "This project was particularly important to me because I never got the chance to meet Busbee before he passed. But his songwriting and his influence in music is so great and so grand that it has affected me moving forward as an artist in this space. And I feel like this was a way of honoring him. I wanted to give it the life that it should have had."
Apple Music highlights that McKenna's series offers "unprecedented" access into country's songwriting processes, as both demo tracks and the final releases of tracks will be heard. Moreover, Lost & Found Radio includes in-depth dives into the track's writing, involving "inspiring, behind-the-scenes perspectives" from artists, producers and studio musicians.
"I'm so thrilled to be a part of this initiative and host the companion radio show on Apple Music Country," said McKenna. "Every songwriter has a catalog full of lost songs. It's exciting that Apple is bringing these almost hits to life and giving some space to these writers, and the stories behind these songs."
Edwards' appearances on Today's Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen and Lost & Found Radio with Lori McKenna air on Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CST on Apple Music Country via https://music.apple.com/us/station/apple-music-country/ra.1498157166.
The latter episode will also be available on demand for Apple Music subscribers on Oct. 2.
