Make TV great again: 'RuPaul's Drag Race's' Trump-themed musical extravaganza
Season 10 RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Aquaria may have made a splash by portraying Melania Trump in the “Snatch Game” last year, but Season 11 trumped that moment, so to speak, with “Trump: The Rusical,” starring this year’s cabinet of queens as the many women in 45’s life.
The Grease-inspired high school musical took place at the Trump School for Girls, overseen by a silly, martini-swilling Betsy DeVos — portrayed with impeccable comedic timing by thespian contestant Scarlet Envy — with a soundtrack that included campaign-ready anthems like “Trumper Humpin’” and “Cheese Frightening.” (Available on iTunes!)
Other standout contestants were challenge winner Silky Nutmeg Ganache, a dead ringer for presidential hopeful Oprah Winfrey (and a real-life registered Republican!); Nina West as the hopelessly devoted Sarah Huckabee Sanders; Brooke Lynn Hytes as snobby head cheerleader Ivanka Trump; and especially Yvie Oddly as a creepy Kellyanne Conway, looking even scarier than Kate McKinnon in that SNL “Kellywise” skit.
Lesser performances included Plastique Tiara in the pussybowed Melania role, Shuga Cain as “Crooked Hillary,” A’Keria C. Davenport as Stormy Daniels, and Ariel Versace as leading lady Shandy, a Russian prostitute and Donald’s onstage love interest. But the only contestants truly deserving of being told “You’re fired!” were Vanessa Vanjie Mateo as a nearly unrecognizable Rosie O’Donnell (judge Michelle Visage said Vanjie’s character was more like a “lesbian Fly Girl”), Ra’Jah O’Hara as a not-nasty-enough Omarosa, and a feckless Mercedes Iman Diamond as Ivana Trump. The latter sashayed away at the end of the episode, after lip-synching against Ra’Jah to James Brown’s “Living in America” and ultimately losing RuPaul’s vote.
No one played Donald Trump in “Trump: The Rusical” — that cameo, in a genius act of typecasting, went to Season 7’s self-declared “glamour toad” Ginger Minj — but Shuga earned my vote in the “Orange Alert” fashion challenge. While the other queens brought their most gag-worthy tangerine-toned eleganza to the runway, Shuga dressed in actual Donald drag, a lewk that included a bouffant-style combover, white-ringed Oompa Loompa bronzer, and even a bag of Cheetos.

I’d insert a “Make RuPaul’s Drag Race Great Again” joke right here … but let’s face it, this show has always been great.
As of this writing, President Trump has not reacted to “Trump: The Rusical.” But given his displeasure every time Saturday Night Live lampoons him — even on reruns! — I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts shadily tweeting in the middle of the night.
Child I hope trump doesn’t see this weeks episode of rupauls drag race…… smh… imma sip my tea and wait for the tweet he has to say about this one…. #rupaulsdragrace #DragRace pic.twitter.com/4WEOsZxU5n
