Martin Lawrence reacts to concerns about his health after ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ premiere
Martin Lawrence is shutting down speculation that there is cause for concern about his health. The actor debunked rumors following his appearance at the “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” LA premiere.
Last week, a clip went viral showing Lawrence and co-star Will Smith on top of a bus and greeting fans. Some spectators suggested that it looked like Smith was guiding an unsteady Lawrence during the interaction at the time.
“I’m fine,” Lawrence, 59, simply said during “Ebro in the Morning” on Hot 97 on Tuesday.
“I’m in God’s hands. I’m blessed. I’m glad to be waking up every day. I’m all good. No need for people to be concerned.”
He later noted: “I’m healthy as hell. Stop the rumors.”
Lawrence explained that he was just surprised by the large crowd that the actors saw outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood at the time.
“I was like, oh, this is rock concert stuff,” he said on Tuesday. “What the hell is going on? For a movie? I was like, oh, my goodness.”
Lawrence and Smith, 55, reprise their roles as Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey, respectively, in the latest installment of the franchise, which earned 2 out of 4 stars from The Post’s movie critic Johnny Oleksinski.
Lawrence is “boisterously silly as ever,” Oleksinski noted.
His “irrepressible comic energy — I could listen to him shout ‘Oh, s – – t!’ on an endless loop — is what keeps ‘Ride or Die’ from being a routine traffic stop,” he noted.
Smith, meanwhile, wasn’t as impressive and appeared “completely dead behind the eyes.”
Perhaps audiences “are tired from watching his Q score plummet for two years,” Oleksinki went on, referring to Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
On Tuesday, Smith and Lawrence opened up about reuniting on-screen during “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“At that time, I wanted Eddie [Murphy] for the movie, but I couldn’t afford Eddie. After talking to Will for five minutes, sold,” Lawrence said. “It’s the best move I ever made. I got to tell you this dude is awesome. He’s one of the most professional actors out there. The most talented actors out there. He has a brilliant mind. He’s a genius. He’s upstanding.”
