Mathew Knowles Reacts To Beyoncé’s CMA Snub: “Comes Down To White And Black”
Mathew Knowles is back to defending Beyoncé, but this time his disdain is with the Country Music Awards. Nominations for the 2024 show were announced on Monday (Sept. 9) and it took no time before fans realized that Beyoncé and COWBOY CARTER weren’t among the contenders.
While critics believe that the CMAs don’t “deserve” Bey, Knowles feels the meaning behind the snub is racially influenced. He told TMZ that he’s “not surprised” about the singer not being nominated, considering that her most notable foray into that space was her 2016 performance with the Dixie Chicks that didn’t go over well with their audience.
Despite the history COWBOY CARTER made with its March 2024 release, Knowles expressed that the CMA voters are “showing it still comes down to white and black.”
He added, “There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements, it’s still sometimes a white and black thing.” The 72-year-old didn’t explicitly describe the snub as racist, but said the snub “speaks for itself.” Knowles later admitted that “in America, there’s no accountability for people not being accepting of other cultures.”
Shaboozey — who’s nominated for New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” — responded to Bey’s snub with praise for his “SWEET HONEY BUCKIIN” collaborator.
The chart-topping artist tweeted, “That goes without saying. Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!” Bey herself hasn’t responded to the snub.
The 2024 CMAs airs live on ABC on Nov. 20.
