“Dolly,” described by the filmmakers as a blend of New French Extremity and 1970s American horror, follows Macy, a young woman abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise her as their child.
The cast includes Fabianne Therese (“John Dies at the End”), Seann William Scott (“American Pie”), Ethan Suplee (“Babylon”), Russ Tiller (“Blood for Dust”) and Michalina Scorzelli (“Shoplifters of the World”). The film also introduces current NWA TV Champion Max the Impaler, aka The Non-Binary Nightmare, in the titular role of Dolly.
Blackhurst and Brandon Weavil (“Babygirl”) wrote the screenplay, with Ross O’Connor, Noah Lang and Blackhurst producing for Witchcraft Motion Picture Company. The project is in association with Set Point, Monarque Entertainment and Mama Bear Studios. Additional producers include Joseph P. Grano, Betty Tong, Esteban Sanchez, Bryce McGuire, Isaiah Smallman, and cast members Therese, Scott and Suplee.
The executive producer roster features Matthew Patterson, Barry Large, Bobby Campbell, Sinan Germirli, Michalina Scorzelli, Cam Doody, Jared Houghton, Travis Truitt, Anthony & John Gentile, Mike Chapman, Fatima Hayward, Antonio D’Intino, John Neumann and Lawrence Dossche.
Blue Finch Films handles international sales.
Blackhurst said: “We made ‘Dolly’ as an elegant and twisted fairytale born out of a deep love of genre films and wanting to see something insane that 13-year-old Rod would want to watch. This film is a renewed investment in our ethos as filmmakers and our proud tribe of misfits. And candidly, I really want to make my films ‘The White Room’ and ‘Die By Night’ and hope this will help that cause, so Hollywood, please call a fella.”
Representation includes UTA and SpectreVision Artists for Blackhurst and Witchcraft, The Group and INSURGE-Ent for Therese, UTA and Sloan, Offer, Weber, Dern for Scott, and Nicole Garcia Management, Paradigm, and attorney Dan Fox for Suplee.
