Meg Ryan confirms engagement to John Mellencamp
Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp are engaged! The 56-year-old actress announced the exciting news on Instagram Thursday with a creative drawing of herself and her fiancé (a Mellencamp original, perhaps?). The’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship for eight years.
The Sleepless in Seattle star was photographed in New York City on Wednesday sporting a diamond ring on that finger. Her new bling was also accompanied by a gold band with diamonds, sparking speculation the pair already tied the knot.

It’s been rumored for months that a secret wedding was in the works for the private couple, something neither star commented on. Thursday’s engagement confirmation comes days after a tabloid report claimed the couple just wed in an intimate ceremony in Indiana.
The “Jack and Diane” singer, 67, and Ryan began dating in late 2010 shortly after Mellencamp’s split from his ex-wife, model Elaine Irwin, to whom he was married for 18 years. After maintaining a long distance relationship, the pair quietly called it quits in 2014.
“Meg is an angel. She was just an angel sent to me at the right time,” Mellencamp told radio personality Howard Stern at the time. “We’ll see what happens.” The couple was rumored to have gotten back together later that year before splitting again.
While appearing on Sirius XM’s The Howard Stern Show in 2017, it seemed like hopes of a reconciliation were over. “You know, I love Meg Ryan,” Mellencamp declared. “She hates me to death.” When asked why, he told Stern: “I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me.”
Apparently, she didn’t hate him that much, as the pair reconnected months later.
Mellencamp has been married three times before and has five adult children with his ex-wives. Ryan has two kids, Jack, 26, from her 10-year marriage to Dennis Quaid, and adopted daughter Daisy, 14.
