Meryl Streep looks shocked by this daring Emmys joke about her
While presenting at the 2024 Emmy Awards, actors Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney managed to imply legendary actor Meryl Streep could be compared to a jockstrap.
The "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" co-stars, who married in 2008, were tasked with announcing the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to honor the comedic performances that hold everything in place. They show crucial support when it's really needed," McElhenney began.
"Much like a jockstrap," Olson replied.
"Yes — what? No, not like a jockstrap!" McElhenney responded.
"What you were describing sounds very much like a jockstrap," Olson retorted.
"No it doesn't!" McElhenney said, before continuing. "These roles make sure everything stays secure, without this support the whole package falls apart... Alright, this does sound like a jockstrap."
"Yeah, are you calling Meryl Streep a jockstrap?" Olson asked as the camera cut to the American icon and Emmy nominee in the front row.
Streep initially looked shocked before looking down at her lap, seemingly mouthing "Oh God" to herself.
"No! I'm so sorry Meryl," he said, playing upset.

It’s unclear whether Streep was aware the joke was coming. TODAY.com reached out to Streep, McElhenney and Olson for comment and has not heard back by the time of publication.
"Are you calling Carol Burnett a jock strap?!" Olson asked.
"No! Oh my God, I revere Carol Burnett!" he replied, as the camera cut to the "Palm Royale" star, who could be seen laughing in the audience.
Online, fans called the moment "cringe."
"I don’t know who wrote the #EmmyAwards tonight, but the dialog (sic) is soooooo cringe," @MRHSfan posted on X. "They just compared Meryl Streep to a jock strap. Yeah, it’s that bad."

Others pointed out her face and its range of reactions.
