Michael Keaton is indifferent about his Batgirl movie never seeing the light of day.

The actor returned to his Batman role for the film, which its studio, Warner Bros. Discovery, canceled back in 2022 despite it being mostly completed. Leslie Grace starred in the titular role, and the cast also included J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser and more.

GQ asked Keaton if he felt disappointed about Batgirl being shelved, to which the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actor, 72, replied, "No, I didn't care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check."

Keaton did, however, express sympathy for the Batgirl directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who worked on the project: "I like those boys. They're nice guys. I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I'm good."

The actor also reprised his Batman character in The Flash, which hit theaters in June 2023.

Filmmakers Arbi and Fallah, who made this year's Bad Boys: Ride or Die, spoke out about Batgirl's cancelation back in August 2022, saying they were "saddened and shocked by the news."

"Our amazing cast and crew did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life," the directors added at the time. "We are forever grateful to have been part of that team." They said it "was a dream to work with such fantastic actors" as Keaton, Simmons, Fraser and more, and praised Grace's "passion, dedication and humanity" in the lead role.

They concluded, "In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment."

Fraser, 55, was set to play the villain Firefly in Batgirl. The movie was to debut on Max but business decisions were made to scrap certain projects during the Discover and WarnerMedia merger. The actor told Variety in October 2022 about the film's fate is "tragic."

"Leslie Grace was fantastic. She’s a dynamo, just a spot-on performer. Everything that we shot was real and exciting and just the antithesis of doing a straightforward digital all-green-screen thing," Fraser said at the time. "They ran firetrucks around downtown Glasgow at 3 in the morning and they had flamethrowers. It was a big-budget movie, but one that was just stripped down to the essentials."

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in theaters Sept. 6.
