Michael Moore shows never-before-seen footage of new Donald Trump documentary
Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday to discuss his new documentary about President Trump.
Host Stephen Colbert kicked off the interview by saying, “It is a great time to be an American because we’re the ones who are responsible for this and we’ve got to do something.” Moore responded, “And we are going to do something, and now it’s time. We have to sort of prove our mettle here. Look, we’re in deep, deep trouble here.” Moore told Colbert that the new film, Fahrenheit 11/9 — the date Trump won the U.S. presidential election — will be released Sept. 21.
Moore, whose documentaries include 2004’s Fahrenheit 9/11, said this new film is about “how the hell we got in this situation and how we’re going to get out of it.” He brought a clip and assured moviegoers that they will see unexpected things in this documentary.
The almost 30-second clip contained footage of Moore pulling up to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, in Palm Beach, Fla. “We’re just in the area shooting my next film,” he says. “Thought I would check out the southern White House. Secret Service sent me down here. I want to go up and talk to Donald Trump. Can I ask, just tell him it’s me.”
Moore told Colbert that he did manage to get into the club — for a total of 11 and a half minutes, in fact. “Did they forcibly toss you out?” Colbert asked Moore, who said, “No, they’re not able to do that with me.” Colbert then asked Moore if he was “civil” while inside, and Moore said, “I am as civil as any Eagle Scout, Catholic altar boy could be when confronted with the devil.”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
