Michel Gondry surprised the White Stripes with a video for 'City Lights'

When the White Stripes released the previously unreleased track "City Lights" this past August, frequent collaborator Michel Gondry didn't just listen to it — he made a music video for the song, and then surprised the band with the clip.

The music video, released Monday, features someone in the shower using his finger to draw scenes in the steam. This marks Gondry's fifth video for the White Stripes, the first four being clips for "The Denial Twist," "The Hardest Button to Button," "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground," and "Fell in Love With a Girl." Although the director has helmed dozens of music videos, he's most known for movies like 2008's Be Kind Rewind, 2006's The Science of Sleep, and 2004's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

"City Lights" is off the just-released album, Jack White Acoustic Records 1998-2016.The song was originally written for 2005's Get Behind Me Satan, but White didn't pick it back up until 2016. See the video below, and read a review for the new album here.
