Mike Huckabee Faces Darkest Hour After Comparing Trump to Churchill: ‘What a Clown’
Twitter won’t remember this as Mike Huckabee’s finest hour.
The ex-governor of Arkansas shared his thoughts on former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill after seeing “Darkest Hour” on Tuesday, and, well, he left the theater thinking about how awesome President Trump is.
“Churchill was hated by his own party, opposition party, and press. Feared by King as reckless, and despised for his bluntness,” tweeted Huckabee. “But unlike Neville Chamberlain, he didn’t retreat. We had a Chamberlain for 8 years; in [President Trump] we have a Churchill.”

Yes, that would be a comparison between historic ninny Neville Chamberlain — the guy that gave in to Hitler’s expansionist demands and bragged about bringing “peace in our time” before the bloodiest war in history — and the guy who presided over the death of Osama Bin Laden.
Twitter didn’t let Huckabee’s tweet go silently into the night. Actress Betty Buckley said it was “absurd” and an “absolute crock of s–t!”
Author Danny Wallace weighed in with “ALL OF BRITAIN IN UNISON: Trump is no Churchill.”

Former McCain advisor Steve Schmidt said the comparison between Trump and Churchill made Huckabee a “history ignoramus for the ages. What a clown.”
GOP strategist Rick Wilson chimed in, too, saying Huckabee’s tweet was the “crown jewel” of bad analogies.
Brit writer Jack Schofield didn’t hold back, saying “Churchill fought [against] Nazis; [President Trump] supports Nazis.”

And Independent political columnist Tom Peck couldn’t help but share a blurb from Churchill’s 1953 Nobel Prize, praising the ex-PM “for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for the brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values.” It’s almost “as if they’re the same person,” said Peck, cheekily.
After the blowback, Huckabee could consider what a modern-day Churchill might say: if you’re going through Twitter hell, keep going.
