From Miley Cyrus to Maren Morris to Selena Gomez: Listen to the Golden Globe nominees for Best Original Song
The Golden Globe nominations were announced on Monday, Dec. 9, and as is often the case, Best Original Song is an all-star contest featuring pop stars and songwriters from around the world, including British, French, American, and Swedish composers. Scroll down to listen to all six contenders for the prize.
“Emilia Pérez” may have an advantage with two nominations in this race, for the tunes “El Mal” and “Mi Camino.” The film has 10 nominations overall, setting a new record for musicals and comedies and indicating abundant support for the film. An additional nomination for the film’s original score is further evidence of its strength. That said, with two tunes in this race, there is always the possibility of vote-splitting, which might open the door for another song to upset.

There are two other films in this race with dual noms for song and score: “Challengers” and “The Wild Robot.” The “Challengers” composition, “Compress/Repress,” is written by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross along with the film’s director Luca Guadagnino. Reznor and Ross have long been admired by Golden Globe voters, who gave them previous wins for composing the “Social Network” and “Soul” scores. But this is their first Globe bid for an original song, and it remains to be seen if the Golden Globe Association likes them as much as the now defunct Hollywood Foreign Press did.
Grammy-winning country-pop star Maren Morris co-wrote and performed “Kiss the Sky” from “The Wild Robot.” It’s the first Globe nomination of her career. Likewise, Robbie Williams is a first-time Globe contender for “Forbidden Road” from “Better Man,” the offbeat film about his life and career in which Williams is portrayed as a chimpanzee.
But Miley Cyrus has been here before, nominated 16 years ago for her tune “I Thought I Lost You” from the animated film “Bolt”; this time she’s up for “Beautiful That Way” from “The Last Showgirl,” which earned an additional bid for Pamela Anderson‘s lead performance. Cyrus’ co-writer Andrew Wyatt has been nominated four times, including a win for “Shallow” from “A Star is Born” and two nominations last year for “Dance the Night” and “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie.”
