Miley Cyrus surprises NYC subway riders with undercover performance
New York City subway riders gathered inside the Rockefeller Center station in Manhattan for what appeared to be a typical busk, but they were floored to realize the amateur country duo was actually Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon in disguise.
The late-night host and his celebrity guest went undercover in the subway for Wednesday's Tonight Show, and Cyrus returned to her country roots. Nearby listeners whipped out their phones to record her impressive cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene," accompanied by a guitar and bucket drummer.
Then the subway became a "Party in the U.S.A." when Cyrus whipped off her wig and sunglasses to perform the classic from her repertoire. "This is my first time at the subway station. This is exciting s–t for me," she said.
Elsewhere on the show, the singer performed her latest tracks, "Malibu" and "Inspired," for the Tonight Show crowd, as well as an odd Ed Sheeran cover. With the help of Google Translate, she sang a snippet of "Shape of You," which filtered through the language helper becomes "Your Body's Curves."
