Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘Damsel’ Breaks Into Netflix’s Most Popular Films List At No. 8
EXCLUSIVE: Just a few months into its time on Netflix, the Millie Bobby Brown-led fantasy pic Damsel has entered into the streamer’s list of Most Popular Top 10 Films (English) at #8, with 137.2M views after 87 days.
After debuting on the streamer on March 8, Damsel spent six weeks in the Global Top 10 Films List and reached the Top 10 Films in 93 countries. The film subsequently enjoyed the biggest week of viewership for any Netflix flick since the Knives Out sequel Glass Onion at the tail end of 2022, with over 50M views in its second week in the Top 10, where views are defined as total hours viewed divided by the total runtime.

“I am beyond thrilled to see Damsel reach Netflix’s Top 10!” said Brown in a statement to Deadline. “I’d like to share a heartfelt thank you to the fans – it is incredibly rewarding to witness so many people enjoying the film and connecting with its story and strong female lead. Here’s to many more adventures together!”
Stated the film’s director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, “The most gratifying reward about this massive success is to see how Damsel has become an iconic movie for a new generation. This great recognition is due to the unconditional love and work from an amazing cast and crew, and the thousands of people who made this movie. I think worldwide audiences have embraced how Damsel gives a new voice to female heroines, suggesting a new way to conquer power and freedom.”
Resonating powerfully on social media, with 1.3 billion impressions on Netflix’s social pages alone, Damsel is just the latest successful collaboration with the streamer for Brown, the star of pop culture phenomenon Stranger Things, which made Netflix’s Global Most Popular Top 10 Lists with both its third and fourth seasons, and has its fifth and final season on the way. Also previously starring in a pair of Enola Holmes films for the streamer, she’ll be seen coming up in its sci-fi adventure flick The Electric State from the Avengers duo of Joe and Anthony Russo.
In Damsel, a dutiful damsel (Brown) agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) directed from a script by Dan Mazeau (Fast X), with Ray Winstone, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson and Robin Wright among others featuring in the cast. Pic’s producers included Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Castaldi. Emily Wolfe co-produced, with Brown and Robert Brown exec producing for PCMA Productions, alongside Mazeau, Zack Roth and Sue Baden-Powell.
