Mindy Kaling Embraces Botanical Inspiration in Sheer Oscar de la Renta Dress Covered in Metallic Leaves for the Oscars 2025 Red Carpet
Mindy Kaling was shining on the 2025 Academy Awards red carpet. The multi-hyphenate artist wore a metallic gown from Oscar de la Renta‘s fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection to attend Sunday’s event in Los Angeles.
Kaling’s dress featured a sheer panel with intricate leaf-like metallic embellishments throughout. The halter-style gown was paired with diamond stud earrings by Effy and a dramatic makeup, featuring dark lipstick and heavy eye shadow.

Erin Walsh styled Kaling for the prestigious ceremony. Walsh also works with Selena Gomez and Anne Hathaway, among other stars.
Kaling produced “Anuja,” which was nominated for Best Short Film. The actress also cohosted the annual South Asians at the Oscars party on Friday. The event celebrated South Asian filmmakers and actors who received recognition at the Oscars. Kaling wore a custom saree by Rahul Mishra at the soiree.
This is Kaling’s fourth time at the Oscars. In 2023, she presented the Best Original Score category in a custom white Vera Wang dress. Kaling also attended the event in 2016 and 2020.
The 97th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, takes place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Conan O’Brien is hosting the ceremony, honoring the best in cinema from the past year. Notable presenters include Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Oprah Winfrey, Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone and more.
