Mississippi Valley Blues Society presents free concert in East Moline
The Mississippi Valley Blues Society will present Dustin Arbuckle & The Damnations in a free concert from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Whiskey Stop in East Moline.
Arbuckle, known for his work with Moreland & Arbuckle, has brought fresh energy to the band since 2017.
His influences include traditional blue legends like Charley Patton, Howlin’ Wolf, and Little Walter. He also draws from the eclectic sounds of The Band and Stax soul.
The band hails from Wichita, Kansas,. Arbuckle told Our Quad Cities News that they’re “A four-piece blues and kind-of-Americana band. We’ve toured North America and Europe and continue to release new music, and try to go forward.”
“I was talking to my dad about it,” he continued. “He was like, you gotta play something. You can’t just be a singer. My decision to play harmonica was entirely based around the fact that it was a lot cheaper to buy one than it is a guitar.”
Arbuckle played the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival years ago with a previous act. He’s looking forward to his return to the Quad Cities.
“I know there’s a good fan base for the kind of music we like to play there,” he said.
A newer track, “You’re Gonna Hear Me on the Radio,” is his favorite in the set list, he said. “It’s a great tune. It’s got an electrified country blues kind of vibe to ti and the lyrics are clever and fun.”
The outdoor show will be in the beer garden, weather permitting, and lawn chairs are recommended. There is a tent if inclement weather occurs.
