Moonlighting Streaming on Hulu: What Songs Will Remain the Same?
The answer to one long-burning question — “Will Moonlighting ever be available for streaming?” — quickly spawned another avid query: “But will the music remain the same?”
As TVLine reported on Tuesday, all five seasons of ABC’s Moonlighting — the groundbreaking dramedy starred Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd as bickering private detectives David Addison and Maddie Hayes — will be available to stream on Hulu starting Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Despite Moonlighting‘s popularity and influence, though, it had not previously been available on any streaming service, due to complicated music licensing issues. As series creator Glenn Gordon Caron explained in April 2022, “the big problem… is the show is just larded with music. None of those rights have been sewn up,” and the studio believes “it would be cost prohibitive to go get them now.”
But six months later, Caron announced that “the business of getting all five seasons of Moonlighting … ready for streaming” had begun, leading to today’s big news.

Hulu’s announcement trumpeted that all episodes have been remastered in high-definition from the original film source, and that, on the music front, the series will retain its Grammy-nominated title track recording by Al Jarreau.
But what of the series’ other memorable musical cues?
TVLine has confirmed with sources that “great care” was given to preserving the tone and style of the series, while limiting the number of replacement songs. Specifically, we hear that all of the songs sung on-screen by Shepherd, Willis and the supporting cast are intact in the remastered version of the series. And while many of the other songs that are “critical” to storylines also remain, “ambiance music” in supper club, cocktail party and bar scenes has been swapped out.
Are you still excited to cue up Moonlighting when its Hulu next month?
