New Movies Out Now in Theaters: What to See This Week

It’s not always easy to find out which movies hit theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strikes led to so many release date changes. With the WGA and actors’ strikes resolved and summer blockbusters rolling in, September is filled with both big-budget flicks and new indie releases.

Premiering Sept. 6 is the follow-up to the 1988 comedy horror classic, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which follows the rebellious teen daughter of Lydia Deetz who accidentally summons the not-so-friendly ghost back to the town of Winter River. The film stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Jenna Ortega.

Also on Friday, A24’s “The Front Room” arrives in theaters. Starring Brandy Norwood, Andrew Burnap, Kathryn Hunter and Neal Huff, the horror thriller follows a newly pregnant family who must take in their sickly, estranged mother-in-law.

Two films getting limited releases this week are “The Paragon,” a comedy about a hit-and-run victim who becomes a psychic to get their revenge, and “The Mother of All Lies,” a documentary about a Moroccan woman looking for truth in her muddled family history. Keep an eye out for “Speak No Evil” and “My Old Ass,” which both release next week.

Check back each week to find the latest releases in theaters, from major wide releases to niche independent titles.
